Hi all,

Dropping back in. Started playing in 2010 just before the US Go Congress was held in Colorado Springs, CO. Lucky for me it was just an hour down the road and I took a week of from work and jumped into the deep end of the pool so to speak. Had a blast, met several of our L19 family there, attended workshops, played games (very badly, but I did have one win!). And for those folks who possibly remember me, I'm about 30 pounds lighter in weight now.

Due to work, family, and too many other hobbies, I had trouble finding time to play on KGS although I did participate in the DDK tournament then and tried the ASR league. But mostly spent time on DGS. Unfortunately, got bored with that and drifted away but always was interested in the game. And the itch to play has been getting stronger lately so I've got some games going on DGS again and have been playing bots on KGS to settle my rank. So I'm starting over with a 25k on KGS and 28K on DGS. So no where to go but up.

As far as any goals, well I'm a 56 year old beginner. At least I don't have the pressure to become pro  I hope to improve but no real goals, more to enjoy the journey in learning the game.

And in case anyone is wondering, the user name is a ham radio term (my other main hobby). It's the name of a digital radio mode and stands for phase shift keying at 31 baud.

So I'm going to be here asking the beginner questions and posting games this time. So let the teaching begin!

If I had one piece of advice for another beginner it'd be tsumego, tsuemgo, tsumego! :)

Start drilling tsumego alongside playing games and getting reviews and you can only improve when you're 20k+. Graded Go Problems for Beginners 1 & 2 are a great place to start. If you want free tsumego, 321go, goproblems.com and gochild are all solid alternatives. If you want a few 9x9 games on OGS just challenge me to an unrated game or three.
