Hello!

I've been lurking around here for a while and have been really enjoying the community, so decided I'd go ahead and join. I first learned to play go seven or eight years ago when I was 12, dropped it, and then fell in love with it last summer. I've been playing on and off since then (more off lately, working around my hectic class schedule--looking forward to having more time this summer!). I've been trying to recruit my friends, but mostly play on KGS or IGS.

I'll be home in the DC area this summer (Alexandria) so hopefully I'll be able to find some people to play with over the board--my college is a bit isolated.

Once you get to DC, there are a few clubs that meet on a weekly basis here. The closest to you is probably the NOVA Go Club, on Mondays in Ballston.

I checked out the NOVA go club's website--looks cool! George Mason is also not that far from where I am.

I noticed a bit on the website about becoming a member--do you know if you are required to pay in order to attend the club, or how that works?

Thanks!

Every year, come January or so, if you're lucky enough to be in the club on the night they decide to collect dues, you get asked. If you go pretty regularly you may be asked as well, but it's pretty informal, and there's no requirement to pay before you play. I don't think anyone would expect anything unless you were relatively regular, also (in terms of attendance).

I think the George Mason one may be defunct at the moment. It seems to start and stop, from what I can tell, based on the timing and interest of students.

Too bad about the George Mason one. I'll definitely come check out the one in Ballston when I get home, thanks for the heads up!
