Hello everyone! I am a complete beginner(I have literally never played before). The reason I signed up is because I need help finding places I can play online. I am having trouble installing GoPanda 2 on Ubuntu(not specifically asking for help on that). I was thinking of using GoPanda 2 via Wine but I figured I'd ask around in case there's a easier solution.

I am interested in Go for mental development. I am currently doing the same with chess though I am a less clueless beginner in that area.

Any recommendation is appreciated, thanks.

Welcome!

First, I’d suggest The Interactive Way To Go if you have no idea what Go is about.

And then … I’d say, forget Wine, Java and such, instead visit the Online Go Server (OGS) which runs perfectly on HTML5 in your browser; you’ll find beginners there as well as advanced players, you can play either turn-based or live, whatever is convenient, and you can also watch games.

Enjoy, Tom

Try KGS. You can get a lot of games and help there.

or you can use GoPanda1 if you want IGS.

there's a Go club in Dallas where you can get in-person instruction and games.

I've been there a couple of times when I'm in town visiting family.

Howdy! The local club meets Thursdays in Richardson. Information can be found here:http://www.dallasgoclub.org . Good luck with your technical issues, and I hope to see you at Club.

visit the dallas go club, which has been mentioned a few times before, we're always happy to get new players. we have a few people willing to teach beginners and people around your level as well.

we meet thursdays at the central market over at coit and georgebush from about 6.00pm until they close at 10.00pm. you can find us in the cafe/eating area. don't worry about bringing a board unless you want to, we typically have enough.

The address is: 320 Coit Rd, Plano, TX 75075

Thanks for the invite. That's not far from where I live(Carrollton). My work schedule is erratic so if I drop in there will be little notice. Maybe the day of is the most anybody will get.

Who do I notify if I decide to come?

You don't have to notify anybody! I recommend just showing up between 5 PM and closing (10 PM). There should be people in the cafe playing for the whole period. It's busiest around 7-8ish, as far as go players go. Just walk up and say you play, and they can help you find an opponent or let you watch.

Howdy and Welcome.

Onlinego.com is a good site if you do not wish to be java based. However it does not have nearly as many live games or strong players.

Have fun!
