We've reacher critical mass for another Kuchinashi tournament.

Participants are seeded according to KGS graph as follows:

1) Jedo (4k)
2) Redundant (5k)
3) Padic (5k)
4) Redstick (6k)
5) Nikolas73 (6k)
6) Karaklis (6k)
7) Aphelion (6k)
8) SoDesuNe (6k)

Start Date:

The official start of the first 2 week round will be this coming Monday 5/17. But if you want to get a jump on things and play a game this weekend it can count.

Rules:

- All games will occur in Go Discussions room on KGS (I suppose a life in 19x19 room would make more sense but I think most people are still in the GD room)

- Each round will consist of a best-of-five series (first person to win 3 games moves on)

- Losers during first two rounds will enter a "losers bracket"

- Winner of the losers bracket will play the winner of the original bracket in a best-of-seven series for the championship

- 30min + 1:00x5 byo-yomi; 6.5 komi; no handicap; alternate B&W with lower seeded player taking Black first

- Each round will last 2 weeks. Individuals will be responsible for scheduling games. Advertising of game times (in this thread) is encouraged so that people may watch if they wish.

- The winner will update the series standings in this thread after each game.

- No use of outside resources during games (honor system will have to do)

Matching:
For game scheduling convenience there will be a Eurpean group and a US/Canada group.

Round 1:

Europe
Padic (3) v. SoDesuNe (8)
3-1
Karaklis (6) v. Aphelion (7)
0-3

US/Canada
Jedo (1) v. Nikolas73 (5)
2-3
Redundant (2) v. Redstick (4)
3-1

Round 2:

Primary:
Padic v. Aphelion
0-3

Nikolas v. Redundant
2-3
Secondary:
Karaklis v. SoDesuNe
2-3

Jedo v. Redstick
0-1

Round 3:

Primary:
Aphelion v. Redundant

Secondary:
Padic v. Nikolas73

SoDesuNe v. Jedo

Analysis:
After each round the players should select 1 game that they feel each would benefit to have reviewed and post it in the game analysis forum.

If any Dan level players want to volunteer to offer the winner a couple teaching games it would be much appreciated.

Last time Flameblade watched and reviewed many of the games. We thank him again.

Am I missing anything?

Uh... okay, I guess I'm not in this then. Good luck to everyone!

When this is over, I challenge the winner to a match to determine THE ULTIMATE KUCHINASHI KING. :D

How about just having the over all winner of the tournament play mountaingo?

That works. We'll say MountainGo is the title holder. Let's make the finals of the bracket best of 5 then and the match with MountainGo best of 7 for the title.

I'm (barely) a dan player who would be glad to offer the winner a teaching game or three.

It's a pity MountainGo does not participate. Why not start with 9 people, forming three triplets in the first round? Two of three players per triplet advance to the next round reducing the number of players to 6. The next round consists of two triplets, reducing the number of players to 4. The last four play knockout matches.

Thanks for your support. :) But I like the idea of just playing the winner. I've been trying different things recently to reduce my stress while playing go, and playing lots of tournament games might have the reverse effect.

My suggestion is that we call this the tournament to CHALLENGE MountainGo as the Kuchinashi title holder, and MountainGo maybe authorized to use Kuchinashi as part of his name now :D

Meijin Iyama Yuta, Honinbo Hane Naoki, and Kuchinashi MountainGo. Sure, why not? :D

By the way, if it matters, I am now 5k on KGS, not 6k (woohoo!).

Hehe I followed the first edition of the Kuchinashi-Cup quietly and think a second edition is a very good idea! Hope you all are able to drain some ideas for your own game out of the games played here.
I'd be glad to review a game or two, maybe even upload the review to youtube (like araban did for me).

Heh, I was too busy to take part in the first one, and now I was just barely too low of rank for this one. I'm going to get in on one of these =)
