Is there a way to get a western keyboard to write in kana/kanji without relying in romanji? In the Microsoft IME properties dialog box, there will be an option called 'Input Method'

Change this from 'romanji input' to 'kana input'

Also you might want to know that many Japanese just use a short form romanji input for computer typing.
