Not intended to be a political statement. Just sharing images I took myself of what is currently happening in Hong Kong which reminds me of how the game of go is about surrounding and occupying territory. Please DO NOT add any controversial comments to this thread. If someone objects to this thread, I will delete it, but otherwise hope you enjoy my series of photos.

Speaking ex cathedra, I'm inclined to allow, or even promote threads like this.

By 'this', I mean news about potentially game-changing events in major go-playing countries that could affect international games. When there are major upheavals in China, the Koreas, or Japan, that will have a bearing on who sponsors what tournament, and who goes to which tournament. ( Example: Lee Sedol talked about moving to the US when the border skirmishes started heating up )

Those who recall the thread about the transition of power in North Korea may note that it did not get locked. ( Indeed, I may ressurrect that one, for Kim Jong Un seems to have disappeared )

I ask that any discussion of politics stick to factual reporting, and not descend into jingoism.

To continue the go metaphor: I've not seen much in the news about major changes by either side. I think we may have seki.

That's a better analogy. :) When the cops take one intersection, the protesters re-group in another.

@TChan: Did you take those photos?

I took these photos myself. Went there around midday Monday and wandered for a few hours. Almost like an open air art exhibit at times with lots of other photographers around. Less people occupying there than typically at night after working hours. I left the scene around the time the opponent side arrived in numbers as you can see in the last photo. I only went there to record the scenes because it's quite an event which will be remembered for posterity. I regret not taking a photo essay when SARS was around so I figured I really wanted to record this one as long as I could do so peacefully out of harm's way.

Yes, both events have some resemblance to certain scenes
from The Stand, I Am Legend, The Walking Dead, etc.
( Also currently happening in Africa. :( )

Looks like it's no longer seki or triple ko. Seems the police have cleared up some of the main roads in that area today without too much resistance. So if I went there to take pictures today, there'd be totally different pictures. Shows the importance of timing in both life and in go.
