I have just added the 2000th game of Cho Hun-hyeon to the workshop version of the GoGoD database today (2014-02-25). That seemed worth a mention, and since the game brought yet another title to this remarkable player, I thought I'd attach it too (tactically interesting finish).



Cho HH is still not the leader, though. Cho Chikun is still out in front with 2050. Yi Ch'ang-ho is closing fast with 1810. Next is Rin Kaiho on 1661.

For comparison, among the even older generation (who had fewer opportunities to play, of course), we have 1556 games for Hashimoto Utaro, 1334 for Sakata Eio and 1305 for Seo Pong-su. Go Seigen is well back with 881.

Reaching 1000 in the database earns the nickname milligod in the GoGoD factory. There are no Chinese MGs yet. Top Chinese player is Ma Xiaochun at 945.

For players of the classical era 400 is exceptional and 200 is doing well.

Can't help but wonder whether people like Yi Ch'ang-ho have already suffered burn-out. He's 38 and for some events he'll qualify as a veteran when he's 40. Cho Hun-hyeon is only 60 BTW.

At least two Chinese players should have passed the 1000 milestone already. I have more 1100+ Chang Hao's game in my private collection, which I haven't got time to validate and put in Go4Go database. The next one should be Gu Li. Yu Bin is really close.

I boobed - it was before the first coffee of the day. We already have 1099 processed games of Chang Hao, and 933 of Yu Bin. Gu Li is on 870. Nie Weiping is 824.

Players like Yu, Nie and Ma don't play much nowadays but they are in the large but still unprocessed reservoir left by T Mark, so divinity may yet await them.
