Hi all,

we are preparing a short Go commercial, to raise interest in the uninitiated. Once it is finished, it will be available for free on Youtube. Crowdfunding starts January/February next year.

More information (and a project teaser, English and German subtitles available) on http://www.playmorego.com. If you like the idea, feel free to spread the word.

Have lots of nice games,
Sven

It made me think about Hikaru No Go. There you have a movie/tv piece that explained go in an interesting way and generated tons of new players. Maybe it's useful as a reference.

While I like the dynamic nature of the video, I hope you don't go too far. Misrepresenting the game might alienate some people that had some interest at first.

I would comment but the video is unavailable. Did it get too many hits?

Is it going to be a commercial for go or for parkour? Hmm...

-------------

This is a neat idea, but please don't turn it into a piece of comedy. The comedic nature of Hachi One Diver ruined that series for me. Please don't make the same mistake with this "go commercial". I realize you probably want it to be fun and "light" in tone, which is fine, just avoid the silly over-acting and resist the temptation to resort to slapstick comedy, okay?

Meh. I didn't know what to make of it. The bit with the long-haired man running and jumping around didn't actually have anything to do with go, did it? Aren't you worried about the whole thing just being a cheap gimmick?

I agreed with all your points, but I do have to say I loved Hachi One Diver. :)

I believe that could be a go player. He's unkempt and slightly paranoid...

Good luck!

We desperately need a go commercial in which no one eats the stones. Looking forward to this.

Hi all,

thank you very much for your comments. I just wanted to say that I'm closely watching what you think about it.

Merry Christmas, happy holidays and a happy new year,
Sven

Fade to 2 people at a coffee shop over a chess board.

Player 1: [turns over king despairingly] "There's more to life than just shooting aliens, but this just isn't my game? What am I supposed to do?"

Spectator: [thumbs at table with cute geek girls sipping tea over a goban at nearby table] "Just go."

End scene as URL appears.

Wait for the servers to get pounded with new user accounts.

I love it and can’t wait to see more.

Well … at our weekly local Go meeting we’ve had it that people put Go stones into their mouths or placed wine gums or peanuts on the board, and one time, when all players present were smokers (smoking’s forbidden when there are non-smokers), one player put out a cigarette in their coffee mug while another one, wanting to take a stone from their bowl, plunged their hand into the ashtray.

All this happened because the players were not able to take their eyes from the board.

If I could do a commercial about go... Ok, first try:

In something that looks like a pub, two chess players are discussing over a game by quoting names that sound boring and hard to remember "...you can't play the Blumenfeld gambit here".

Then I'd move to a go game played next, where two people are in silence.

A passing (non geeky) 15yo kid stops to watch. After a couple of seconds, one of the players put a stone and the other resigns.

Right before they remove the stones, the kid stops them by taking a stone from bowl of the player who just lost, puts it in the board, making a large dragon alive.

Both players stare at the move and mumble some astonishment while the kid keeps on his way to the door, where a beautiful girl his age is waiting.

...

Nah, it's not good. I could do better. :)

I really don't like some of the heavy-handed attempts (or suggested attempts) at manipulating the audience, as presented in this thread.

Just try to bear in mind that some of what we've said has been in jest.
