Re: Why does progress stop?

It does not mean that. Even if you can reach 1d level by only applying base principles, it does not mean that there are even one player who actually got to 1d that way. Even if every 1d got there by only applying basic principles, it does not mean that they can write a commentary fo a kyu game ...

Re: Book review: This is Haengma, by Kim Sung-rae

Never playing in a way that may cause you to have a weak group is not a very good idea. Learning to take care of them, and to turn them into less weak ones, is probably better, because in some cases they will appear.

Re: Book review: This is Haengma, by Kim Sung-rae

I thought this was a very good book. It was easy and uncomplicated to read, but i felt the content was interesting and usefull (and I don't think more complications would help). But maybe there are much better books on the same subject that I just haven't discovered yet.

Re: Timed Go

Sometimes you can ignore the threath and pass, and the opponent will lose one time anyway. I played game with absolute time (bad idea) once, and I lost on time when my opponent refused to play the endgame and just kept passing. There was no time for me to figure out how to handle such tactics. If I ...

Re: Fixed Ko Rule: Continued Discussion

This may be a simple question but I don't understand this. Why does it matter if a rule doesn't allow a move that can't be played anyway? What difference does it make? Why isn't it what the rules do to moves that are possible that's important? Sorry for being 20 kyu at rules.

4. It isn't analogous to a well functioning market? I don't know, but does it have to be?

Re: The Shodan Go Bet

I managed to get a game with the zenbot of 4 dans. It was blitz and I lost by time close to the end. I tried to play out the last moves by myself, and concluded that I would have won, but it was close so I am not really sure. I think that if I just got used to its strange style, I would win more ...

Re: The Shodan Go Bet

Good day.

After reading this thread, I felt compelled to create a personal experience. Even getting a game against a bot stronger than 7k or so was very difficult, and I was unable to get a game against the strongest ones. My first game was against the PS3 1d-bot on KGS, which I won by more than ...
