That would be Pierre Audouard. He became French champion in 2007, an impressive performance.
As far as I know, he was already a high dan player when his sight deteriorated.

Re: Shikshin 3p a hair's breadth from promotion

If I go to eurogofed.org or usgo.org, will I know that (a) these tournament games are streaming weekly, or (b) that Michael Redmond and Chris Garlock have their series on Sunday? (Answers: (a) not that I can tell,
I can't tell if it was edited today, but I've just checked and the link about the ...

Re: Young Korean pro Kim Eunji banned for 1 year for AI chea

Kirby, did you consider the possibility than you expressed far more emotions and feelings than anyone else in this thread?

In some cases it might be appropriate to ban someone for a year or something.
I'm not as passionate as you are so I may have missed some info. Based on the "facts" that ...

Re: Young Korean pro Kim Eunji banned for 1 year for AI chea

Another angle on this. Inseong recently introduced an anti-cheating committee into the Yunguseng Dojang. If someone is determined to be cheating, they are kicked out of the program.

Is he being too harsh? What if the participant is only 13?
I don't think he is too harsh, but this is hardly the ...

The sponsors pay prize money to the winner of the tournament for *playing go* - not for copying moves from an open source AI. Tournaments have rules, and you get prize money in accordance to those rules. If some non-go player barges into the next Samsung cup and steals the prize money without ...

Re: Young Korean pro Kim Eunji banned for 1 year for AI chea

I missed the start of the debate, but so far I've agreed with all of jlt's posts. Maybe it's because we're both teachers. If every student I've caught cheating got a definite ban from school it would cause a mess.

One thing that I haven't seen mentionned and that I would be worried about is that ...

Re: Nvidia RTX 30xx

With "usually stronger playing than 9p" I mean "always wins unless we have a constructed position with a ladder / semeai / mathematical endgame / non-standard ko strategy problem or the like".

Time settings: like in typical tournament, casual game or server game.

And no, time is not everything ...

I hope Tanguy can take some games, the time settings are good for him. More realistically, I voted for Ilya and Artem.

Re: Computer Specs for Go Review with AI

The analysis speed of LZ264 (40b) is about 3.5 visits / secs., if I want to analyze a game with 250 moves with 10k visits / move, it takes about 177 minutes, if 1k, 17 minutes. I wonder if I have a GPU desktop, I can run it even faster.

Anyone any advice? (Computer specs, and analysis speed ...

Re: KataGo V1.3

I'm not exactly sure why it would be slow. There aren't actually that many parameters you can tune that would have that big of an effect, just one mainly: have you run the benchmark command in a console/command window to select a number of numSearchThreads to use? (See the readme, and/or the main ...

Re: KataGo V1.3

v1.3.2 is now released. If you're using the OpenCL version, you should get a noticeable performance boost.
I have a GTX 1660 Ti GPU but I have issues when trying to install the CUDA version. I didn't report it because the OpenCL version is working fine and I have no experience with compiling so ...

I know it doesn't matter much but how is 47-14 a better win ratio than 24-7?

Re: Endgame Problems 1

Happy New Year! :)

Just a couple of comments on the discussion so far.

Bill Spight said he expects a dan player to play the small endgame almost perfectly.

That's a little strong. I think that a dan player has the skills to play endgames at or below temperature 1 almost perfectly. All they ...

explo, 1~2d with quite big mistakes (that is, larger than 4 points) is a hint to improve by stop making them...! :)
If I wasn't making big mistakes I wouldn't be a low dan player :grumpy:

Re: Endgame Problems 1

Meanwhile, you have learned about modern endgame theory. Have you developed an opinion how it compares to traditional endgame theory?
Tricky question! The biggest difference for me so far is that modern theory shows me a clear path to get a move value. Traditional endgame I feel was usually about ...
