Re: #265 dfan vs ThetaHat

Use thickness to attack! I still probably shouldn't be too happy about recent developments, but at least this continuation fits my narrative, and all of my stones have a meaning.

How come this is using thickness to attack? I don't understand. To me, this would be more like using thickness to ...

Re: ranking on asian server.

My rank at KGS was around 3-4k. On Wbaduk I hover about 7-8k. The playing style is totally different there. I feel at wbaduk I cannot get away with grazy overplays; these guys know how to punish. So I have to try to play sensibly. In KGS I played grazy moves, and they worked.

Re: Saint Ravitt vs Darev

A question to Rev:

why did you F7 (hane at the head of two) instead of F6 (when white pushes from behind)? Was there some plan behind this? How did you succeed, looking at it now in hindsight? Did you consider other moves?

Re: Saint Ravitt vs Darev

Having my two weak stones in the lower left would be bad, but having my lone stone in the top left attacked would be even worse. A second move here seems more critical as I can fight in the lower left.

The lone stone in the upper corner is in no trouble. It has room for extension and it is on ...

Senior Pope

hi,

I read the nihon kiin pages on Antti Törmänen: http://www.nihonkiin.or.jp.e.qs.hp.transer.com/player/htm/ki000471.html.

The page says he is in "Nihon Ki-in senior Pope position".

What does that mean?

Re: #249 Chiodus vs tj86430

I have to protect against the cut at D12. I don't know which of the several ways to do that is best, but this seems reasonable. He can of course force with F12 and D11, but I don't mind

I like connecting at D12 better. The reason is that with this connection, white can connect below with B12 ...

People have different opinions on the matter, my own is that hoping your opponent makes a mistake or being slow to resign or using posture and play speed to try to trick a player into missing a trap are at best minor infractions, while refusing to accept responsibility for a loss violates the core ...

Re: Was ready to start playing go again and this happened...

The point is not the rule per se, but rather the issue of sportsmanship. Just because the rules do not disallow irritating comments in the chat for example , does not mean that this is generally perceived as a good tactic. On the contrary, we perceive this and some other behaviors permitted by ...

Re: Was ready to start playing go again and this happened...

I don't understand these rants. For some, this seems to be a big problem, since these rant threads appear frequently.

If your opponent plays by the rules and you lose your concentration, then the game, there is only one person to blame. No need to vent.

Re: #246 moyoaji vs. schawipp

In any case, attacking the corner is going to be harder after that move, so the question is: how can I profit by attacking black's cutting stones?

Is my judgment totally wrong? I feel white has no possibilities for attack here; the three stones floating around P5 are just too weak, with no ...

Re: become a dan player or die

I am as strong as I was when I started playing. Some other players have become stronger and some players have gotten weaker during this time.

I did try becoming stronger; read books and solved tsumego. It did not make me any stronger, but other people started making stupid mistakes around the same ...

Re: A 1 Dan's Half Understanding of Fundamentals

Learn the fundamentals before worrying too much about advanced concepts.

To me, this sounds a tall order. I'd say: learn first basics, then advanced stuff, then fundamentals. For example; many people are skilled in using real numbers long before taking the course on Fundamentals of Real Analysis.
