lol, I totally missed that. Sorry gogameguru, check this out as well:

And for the love of god play the game. It's like go in that it changes the way you think. Certain schools have their students play it because it teaches innovative thinking. If you're comfortable with torrents everyone I know ...

Re: Balance, sharing and attacking

I get completely lost in the balancing act/battle and go into full on battle mode. How do you guys juggle these things and still keep that sharing mindset? I guess I'm not really asking anything that hasn't already been sort of asked.

Partly the fact that, as you get stronger, unreasonable moves ...

Re: chess playing go players

I would figure that that would happen.

edit: I also thought that one of the advantages of playing chess is that it would enhance your peripheral vision. In go it's easy to loose track of your surroundings and zoom in on a fight because it's less likely you'll be punished for it than t is in chess ...

chess playing go players

I think I've noticed a pattern where chess players I know that play go focus more on capture battles and aggressive play than making their own territory. Has anyone else noticed anything like this? It could just be a false generalization on my part. I started to wonder to myself if chess perhaps ...

Re: Balance, sharing and attacking

How do you continually keep track of

A) reading out each fight
B) making sure weak groups aren't getting disconnected off to get killed
C) your opponent isn't getting a better share of the local area than you
D) all the possible invasions
e) the way the battle is changing your ability to access ...

Re: harder computer program

Understood. What are these bad habits? Anything that would be a big thing or something that could be explained or is it just a bunch of tiny things? I'm always amazed at how it will start something and then go somewhere else long before it's safe but then again I've played 4 kyu humans who kind of ...

Re: Checklist to improve go game

In my experience zooming out to see the whole board is the biggest thing. Before I could keep track of weak groups and strong groups that was my biggest thing, but now it's zooming out in the heat of conflict and trying to keep things in perspective.

Re: harder computer program

That's an interesting idea. And thanks for the gnu info.

I was playing quite a few games on kgs, and not only that but my one friend who's the same rank as me got down to something like 8 kyu, consistently winning, before he finally got bounced up to 12 kyu. I should probably just keep playing ...

Re: harder computer program

You're a 3k, I get my ass handed to me. I was playing kgs but it takes awhile before they match you with the appropriate opponents so I got tired of it. Plus the people at my go club know my user name so if I get to a better level I'll feel like I have to do better rather than being without ...

harder computer program

http://eidogo.com/#2iqSyDLj

I beat panda go at it's highest level and I'm only a 13 kyu (unless it was at it's lowest level, it's not labeled but I had it all the way to the right) I've heard computers are supposed to be able to play at 6 kyu.

Re: punishing joseki

personally, I didn't find either of these two books very useful. they may be better aimed at dan level players

I think that's the problem with all of this advice.

CXUD - at 20k, if you know 10 basic joseki you're ahead of the game. Don't worry about joseki until you're at least SDK. Punishing ...

Re: punishing joseki

Oh it really is nearly impossible to follow. Anything produces harm, even windmill generated power kills birds. I just handle it through step by step measures. Industry such as plastics metals and power generation is brutal on all kinds of eco systems

I'm glad to get any help I can get.

I ...

Re: punishing joseki

I'm glad to get any help I can get.

I realize this sounds strange but I can't buy paper books, I've adopted an ahimsa policy, which is nearly impossible to follow, but I add each thing piece by piece and books have been added (along with meat and root vegetables ect.) if there's an online version ...
