Thanks for the feedback. I will suggest allowing direct downloads of the SGF problems; I agree that choice is important.
www.kazsensei.com (apologies for the typo in my original post) is Kaz's personal/teaching page. The project I described will be a completely new website where he hosts his ...

Re: The Psychology of Handicap Games
Thanks for sharing. I share your interest in the psychology of handicap games. I notice that when playing a handicap game as White, I am overly-aggressive, trusting that at some point my opponent will make a mistake (or fail to exploit my overplays). As Black, I am very safe, playing lots of ...

Request: Website Dev Assistance in Exchange for Go Lessons
Hi everyone,
I have a background in web development and have been working on a website for ex-insei Kazunari Furuyama 8d, who goes by Kaz Sensei ( http://www.kazsnesei.com ). The new website we are building will offer access to custom problems and tests tailored for each student's needs. And at ...

Re: I'm back... first serious game in a while
1. What were you hoping to achieve in this area? White 64 is a common and obvious possibility for White. Did this surprise you itself or did you anticipate it but things developed differently than you expected?
2. If you sit back and look across the board after 62, what other areas might you have ...

I'm back... first serious game in a while
Howdy folks! Been away for a few years but decided I wanted to take Go more seriously in 2020. So I joined the Canadian Go Association's online league... here is my first game from there :) obviously I'm still a little rusty! I added some of my own comments/reflections but would appreciate if anyone ...

Re: Physical fitness for better Go?
Yes, it's long been scientifically established that there's a relationship between physical and mental health and performance.
To expand on this -- there's a lot of research and evidence about how physical activity yields cognitive benefits. So far, it seems that for optimal cognitive benefits ...

Re: Have researchers discovered the gene for aging?
There's likely more than one gene involved! There are many factors contributing to ageing, each of which may be regulated by several genes and could effect other genes, including:
Telemore shortening
Senescence of the immune system
Dietary factors (particularly protein consumption, sugars ...

2k vs 3k, B + Fluke
Hi there,
After several years I finally have time to start playing/studying Go actively again. Still feel a bit rusty though, and would appreciate any general comments on this game I played yesterday as Black. I have included a few of my own thoughts.
I considered resigning around move 118, but ...

Re: Cheap go boards hitting the market
Oh wow. That's the first Go set I ever purchased (about 11 years ago), and the book I learned the basics from! It's made of cardboard and plastic but is surprisingly durable, and if I recall there is a 9x9 board on the reverse side.Joaz Banbeck wrote:go pack.jpg

Place your bets!
Hajin Lee thinks it's 50/50. The fact that it's difficult to call is astonishing.

This is so exciting! Enough to make me stop lurking here :D
I even tried my hand at blogging again after a five-year break. Hope I didn't misinterpret too much:

Thanks for your comments, glad my intuition wasn't too off! In the future I think I will play
in the same corner as
(which is a slightly bigger move than the lower left corner) until my joseki knowledge returns.

"Mukai Komoku" (double 3-4) Fuseki
Yesterday I finally got around to fixing Java on my machine and started playing Go online again after a year-long break. I'm falling back in love very quickly but also finding myself stumped on where to play quite often, as was the case in this opening, as White:

Agreed, just discovered this website and loving it so far but the time spent going back and forth is my only real complaint.
