Re: 1001 L&D - Problem 135

It's not a seki since w can approach from the outside and kill.

Okay, I finally got it!! White will eventually connect his A2 stone to the rest of the stones, and then thrust down to A1 and cover black's last outside liberty. Then it doesn't matter if black plays inside or not, since black will ...

Re: 1001 L&D - Problem 135

The problem with your throw-in suggestion is

after white captures and then black blocks on the outside, you seem to assume white has to make another move... but what can black do if W tenukis? The variation you show is gote death for B.

But if white plays tenuki, then it seems like anything ...

Re: 1001 L&D - Problem 135

Sorry, could someone help out with getting this problem on here, too?

Thanks JTS!! I don't know why I wasn't able to get the file to show up.

1001 L&D - Problem 135

Could someone please tell me if this problem has two valid solutions? This is problem number 135 from 1001 Life-and-Death problems. The problem is "Black to live" in one move. The only answer given is to play at F2 (variation 1), but playing at E1 (variation 2) seems to work also, even though it's ...

Re: Just a picture of my first goban

Very beautiful board! Those stones look very nice on it too. Are those double-convex Yunzi? What size (thickness)?

Get Strong at Tesuji

I had been wanting some more problem/tsumego books and recently picked up Get Strong at Tesuji and 1001 Life and Death problems at my local game shop. Although I had read many reviews of both books, I have to admit I was a bit surprised at some of the problems from the Get Strong at Tesuji book. Now ...

Re: Crazy Stone Software

If your rank is "total beginner" then there should be little hesitation as for the game abilities. I have Crazy Stone on my iPad (and on my iPod Touch 2nd Gen, too) and it can crush me in many levels, with or without handicap. Of course, I don't play as focused (even if I usually don't play that ...

Got my copy of this and Joseki: Fundamentals on the way. Very excited about these books. I recommend those interested to check out Robert's generous samples. Congrats to Robert on the new book!

Re: Tesuji problem

I remember considering the variation you posted, but didn't see the white clamping move at N5 -- I clearly didn't read far enough ahead. It seems so obvious now that I've seen it.

Re:

Joaz, could you explain your comment about move #6 in further detail? I understand that this move does hit the head of his two stones, thus violating the well-known proverb of avoiding the hane at the head of your stones, but this move seems very similar to the basic moves of the avalanche joseki ...
