Japanese Igo - Shogi Channel Shows Now Online

I used to live in Japan and was subscribed to the Igo-Shogi Channel on cable television. I loved this and never understood why they didn't have an online application that we could pay to watch... well... I just discovered this week there is now! :D

Re: [Q] Question about alleged Japanese proverb

Just did a quick Google search about "go" and "hunger", and the following paragraph about a Chinese legend called 述異記 came up:

『述異記』(任昉)巻上 晋の時代。木こりの王質が石室山へ行き、数人の童子が碁を打つのを見物する。童子は棗(なつめ)の核(たね)のようなものを王質に与え、それを口に含むと飢えを感じなかった。しばらくして童子が「なぜ行かないの?」と言うので、王質は立ち上がって斧を取る。斧の柯(え)はぼろぼろに爛(くさ)っていた。山を下りて里へ帰ると ...

Re: What is your MBTI?

Any time Myers-Briggs comes up in conversation, I always find it interesting that some people feel the need to discredit it.

Love this quote. Thanks for sharing Elom.

Somehow I feel that a few people are attracted to the idea of people fitting into types while a few others find it ...

Updated Online Joseki Dictionary

Wondering if anyone has a good place to recommend to look up modern Joseki that would include both traditional, more modern, and also Alpha Go/Leela joseki.

I used to use eidogo.com, but I find it' thats missing a lot of joseki played, and running a Leela Zero analysis on my games every time I want ...

Re: Improvement???

If you like reading Go books, I suggest Janice Kim's Learn to Play Go series. I used it when I started and it helped a lot. :study:

Also, do you only play online? It's helpful to play with people when you start, so looking for a ...

Re: Announcing GoReviewPartner - v0.15 with Pachi and Phoeni

Just want to say a big thank you for this. I haven't played go in a while, and am finding this an amazing tool to get back into it. I always found reviewing games alone quite difficult.

Great job! :D

Re: Same Ranks Stronger During European Time?

I don't think that non-interacting pools are necessary for the effect. Maybe the european players play stronger during the daytime than during nighttime. A large proportion of them could be drunk in the evening, for instance. :)
True.

Hmm... It would be interesting to see if we could develop a ...

Re: Same Ranks Stronger During European Time?

Given that KGS tries to calculate ranks across all games this could only happen if there were two distinct pools of players with little interaction. This could happen, of course, but it seems unlikely as it would not take too many games between the pools to synchronize the ratings.

Same Ranks Stronger During European Time?

Has anyone else felt that same ranked players in the morning in NA (afternoon Europe) are stronger than evening NA?

I always play on the same settings, but am sometimes confused by the huge difference in playing abilities of my opponents earlier in the day and later in the same, i.e. players ...

I have never tried creating an account there, but it just looks like a regular terms of service - no subscriptions mentioned.

Imo, you should just make you translate explanations next to check boxes, and all should go well... good luck!

Re: Ten hours of study for every one hour of play

That ratio might violate the tip: when you learn something new, use it in a game, from Michael Redmond 9p. (Unless, of course, in that 10 hours of study you are learning nothing new, then maybe it's okay but of course one wonders what you are studying... )

I don't think that follows. You don't ...

Re: Databases

If you have a paid account, you can view history of any player's games. I doubt the records are available from Tygem for free, since viewing game history of players is disabled for free accounts (at least with Korean client).

I can confirm that:

It's disabled on Japanese clients, but not on ...
