Re: Practical endgame counting: what's happening in your head?

Tip 2: count relative to a "reference position".

Re: Two against one, what is the right intuition?

This is an example from today's game in Kansai Kiin 1st place. Black is Sonoda Yuichi and white is Yokota Shigeaki.

My feeling is that black isn't efficient enough on the left side and maybe this explains the fierce fighting that follow, then again I have no real arguments for why I feel this way ...

Re: Endgame values with area counting

I have a different perspective to what was expressed above. I think the articles would have been much improved if the ratio of arithmetic and algebra to examples and good arguments was much lower. There could be much more of the other things.

I thought that the articles largely glossed over how ...

Re: LifeIn19x19.com v2.0!

Actually, I have a feeling the the first post is truncated or broken in some way, and not all the content is displayed. In the thread, they seems to quote content from that first post that is apparently missing.

BBCode was disabled in my previous message. It is possible to use magic to display ...

Re: Two against one, what is the right intuition?

Right. But on the other hand, the single group is normally the one in the middle. The two groups are compromised because they don't get to play one stone per turn per group. The single group is compromised because it's floating: there isn't an easy option for making a base at the edge of the board ...

Re: LifeIn19x19.com v2.0!

There is no diagram in that post, just the word "go" in (square) brackets, like this [go]. I imagine an admin could change this to parenthesis but probably there has been some change to the BBCode interpretation.

Two against one, what is the right intuition?

Fighting with two groups separated by one group occurs frequently in Go. It is common in joseki and in the middle game.

Here is an example from a bookish joseki :study:

Re: LifeIn19x19.com v2.0!

It is great that it is back and it sounds like it was lot of work. Thanks!

The theme and the layout is much improved but I had to increase the font size for myself (using a browser plugin that overrides the CSS), while I was at it I changed to a font I find more readable.

Something like this for ...

Re: Onishi Ryuhei

Onishi is at 10 - 1 this year, so far.

Only lose was to Kono Rin in Agon cup preliminary A final. Kono is at number 12 in the mamumamu for Japan and I think the strongest player Onishi has faced since returning. Onishi is still listed as inactive but would be number 14 in the latest list, based on ...

He has played two games in league A now. One on Tuesday and one today.

Hopefully this is the end of the whole conflict.

30th LG Cup

LG cup is being played this week with past champions replacing the non-participating Chinese delegation.

I didn't really see a bracket that I could completely understand but what I gather, and if I can recall, then Cho U won his game in the first round but not in the second round, Ichiriki and Xu ...

Re: LG Cup 29 final fiasco

I found this article by chance:
https://sports.sina.com.cn/go/2025-05-12/doc-inewhhpk3262792.shtml

It doesn't say if Ke Jie has played since February but I might also just have missed that. However, it does say that he wasn't on the national team roaster in April and it gives some reasons why he ...

Re: LG Cup 29 final fiasco

I also looked for his games since LG cup earlier and couldn't find any.

He is number 4 in that list from wechat but the column for the change in rating is blank. His rating is also 2689.8 on the list. This does round to 2690, which was his rating during the LG cup match.

All of this suggests that ...
