Re: Ever wondered ....

I think an interesting question to ask is how is Chess different from Go. I'm not really knowledgable about such things but how do computers evaluate a situation like ko? How do computers perform positional judgement?

I think Chess has some clear fundamental advantages in regards to computing in ...

Re: How to spend $

You could also try some audio Go lectures from Guo Juan.

Normally, I recommend books but if you are looking for something else, I think the audio lectures might be a way to balance cost effectiveness vs enjoyability

Re: Books you would like to own or see written

What are you looking for in an endgame book?

To provide some background, some of the endgame books I own are:

200 Endgame Problems - Winning Tactics by Shirae Haruhiko
The Endgame by Ogawa Tomoko and James Davies
Get Strong at the Endgame, by Richard Bozulich
Endgame Dictionary by Kano ...

Books you would like to own or see written

I'm a budding Go book collector. Not as great as Tchan001 but I currently have ~250 books(haven't taken inventory in a while).

What are some books you would like to own? Alternatively or in addition, what books would you like to see written?

Personally, I loved Kamakura, 9 dan showdown and Final ...

Re: Please Share Your Top 5 English Go Books for Improvement

My top 5 books:
Opening Theory Made Easy - Instant level up in opening
Tesuji - in my opinion the best intro/learning aid on tesuji. A true mind opening experience
Graded Go Problems for Beginners - lots of tsumego
The Endgame - a very important book for an undervalued subject
Kamakura/9 Dan ...

They became pros because there was enough interest to sponsor matches and otherwise provide them with a living. The organizations granting professional credentials are a secondary phenomenon.

Very true.

Pros didn't become pros in other countries because a professional organization made them so ...

Seattle 2013

I've noted that Seattle seems to be the location for the 2013 US Go Congress. Has this been confirmed?

Re: Boom!

One thing I am still curious about is the tax implications of being a professional player for the US.

The AGA made mention of potentially tapping US players winnings. If this is the case, does this mean that after having their earnings "taxed" by the AGA, they must also pay federal taxes as well ...

Finally transitioned over

Hello everyone,

Wasiqi here...transitioning from the old GD ( and no I don't mean Gangsta Disciples) site.

Quick question...

Though I will never have a collection to match the great Tchan001...I've become something of a Go book collector, and would like to know if anyone knows of a way to contact ...
