This looks completely amazing, I just spent some time going over some of the SGF's in this thread and the problem has so many wonderful features, it's incredible. I hadn't seen this problem before, and it is (obviously) a thing of beauty indeed.
I would really like to try running this with the ...

Re: #MenToo
Study for him means playing a bot on the Yugen no Ma server, and his score so far this year is 0-280.
Wow, that is a special kind of dedication which I admire. I have played a few games against the AI, but I find it incredibly demoralizing to see your position slowly deteriorate hopelessly while ...

Re: Analysing games of Toroidal Go - a call …
Hi Malcolm,
I just read your blog post introducing toroidal go, and I must say it does really trigger my curiosity. It's well written, and especially seeing those game records is interesting. The board becomes almost dizzying to look at! I'd quite like to try my hand at this game.
Would you be ...

Re: Redmond's got a YouTube channel
Just today, another new game review video appeared (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7WOjTEFw28). As usual, it's a brilliant review, this time of a recent pro-game. Anyone interested in recent pro play should check it out, not only is Michael Redmond the strongest native English-speaking go player ...

Copying AI moves online
I fear internet go might be running into a new problem... Analyzing a KGS game from yesterday, I just found that my opponent copied AI moves at every stage. This guy is supposedly 2d, although I noticed he has so far won every ranked game he ever played, excepting one loss on time. I had not seen ...

Re: unfinished game after disconnection, how to arrange it
A real disconnection policy has been on the wishlist of many people probably since the beginning of KGS. It's exceedingly unlikely to happen (although, KGS is now operated by the AGA, so who knows?). The KGS philosophy seems to be that giving users the opportunity to finish their interrupted games ...

Re: SL - L19 - reddit
I quite recently stopped posting on Reddit, and migrated back here. So it is interesting to see this subject under discussion! This is, in fact, my first post since migrating back.

Re: Slacking off on my calculations
An 8 kyu will seldom benefit from taking more than 20 sec. for a move, even in difficult positions
I agree that this is probably true, but I think a major exception is tsumego. Most games have one or two tsumego coming up during the game, and I think it really helps to sit down at those moments ...

Re: Is there really a "polite corner" after a 3-4 opening mo
After the symmetry is broken, of course all bets are off. But in all honesty it really does annoy me if black does not open up in the lower triangle of the top right quadrant. There is no strategic value in playing in a rotationally symmetric point, the only advantage you get is annoying your ...

Re: Shibano Toramaru
Very interesting topic and nice to see that a young Japanese pro is doing so well!
I came here after a Google search, because I wanted to know who that young lad was that convincingly beat Cho U in an NHK Cup YouTube video from earlier this year. For those interested, a nice video of the Cho vs ...

Really, you're not allowed toilet breaks during byo-yomi in Canada? No one does that here in the Netherlands either but I'm pretty sure EGF rules allow it (within reason, of course).

Interesting move! I would not claim to understand every variation, but I would guess the idea is to make miai of 'a' and 'b' below

Game review (1k)
I have gone through a few years in which I almost didn't play at all, and currently I'm trying to get back to my old level (officially I'm still a Dutch 1 dan but probably I'm closer to 1 kyu right now). This was a decent online game with reasonable time limits. It was very close in the end. I put ...

Re: Guess-the-next-move!
I'll be leaving the Netherlands for two weeks of vacation this Saturday. So updates will probably become a bit flaky for two weeks. Unless someone wants to take over the updates for that period. If you'd volunteer, you can PM me and I'll send a link to the game! Thanks!
