Re: scoring

Well, you've got to look at it from this forums perspective.
If a kid who only just started playing basketball joined a club of basketball players, and said
"But the scoring method makes no sense! Let's score by how many times you pass to eachother!"
You would tell him he was wrong, and just ...

Re: A fun game record

Hahah,
I stumbled across something similar while studying joseki. It was a 5 line ladder, white on both sides and in the middle, eventually destroyd the 2 black ladders inside.

Re: Playing makes me worse

I'm also in the position whereI get to play Go in person very rarely.
It does seem like online games progress differently. Maybe that's the effect of not being face to face with your opponent.
Do you review your online games? It may be easy to pick up bad habbits online if you don't.
And reviewing ...

Re: Go in Manhattan, New York

It's looking iffy. I had to take my car into the shop.

I've had really bad luck getting to tournaments lately. T.T
but I'll challenge you at the next tournament near there. (not empty sky though tournament, cause that's waay further for me.)

Re: scoring

I like to think that some facet of the game that's totally inconcievable to us muggles, actually makes it a perfectly balanced game. XD

Re: scoring

A good book series, actually.
But he's right. the rules of quiddich were built specifically to make harry more important to the team than he should have been.=P it was really horrible.

The case is not the same with Go. it was designed for everyone. and very well designed at that.

Re: Go in Manhattan, New York

I live pretty far away, but most likely I'll be comming for that tournament.
Unfortunately I probably wont have time to stop for a game before or after unless I see you there.
I'd be glad to play you between rounds.

Re: scoring

You don't pass after you capture. The game continues. You fill up the board. A 19 by 19 board. I play this way all the time with my mom, and it's made me feel better because she was very sad, for reasons I don't really want to disclose on the net with a bunch of nerds, but I feel like I can ...

Re: scoring

I think that playing to win is playing for fun.
Using abstract stategies is extra fun. As long as you still play to win.
But if you aren't both trying your hardest, then why is it fun? In your version, passing after getting a capture and forming eyes is the ultimate strategy for people who are ...

Re: Fuseki into middle game. A tricky path?

Somewhere between Opening and Middle game, I feel as if I lose a lot of points. Sometimes it can snowball very badly.
It's not a problem I'd like to be stuck with, and so, this thread is for tricks and tips on a healthy transition from opening to middle.

This sounds like a lack of planning. The ...

Re: I've got a tournament comming up.

u_u;;;
I feel horrible, I think I may have to stay home at this rate.

-
30 minutes seems to be standard for the most part, It's what most people seem to like to play on KGS, so I've gotten used to it. but, I really prefer 40 minutes+.
Go isn't a game I need a time limit for, though. I can play ...

Re: I've got a tournament comming up.

30 or 40 minutes main time, +5 30 second byo yomi.
I don't think I've ever seen a tournament without byo yomi, though I've only been to a couple.

Re:

Have fun. How many games total ? What is the time control in each game ?
Thanks!
Well, this one is self paired AGA rated games, so, as many matches as I can fit in, really. (though I prefer a more traditional tournament, I'm totally fine with self paired)
The time isn't mentiioned but most ...
