Re: Using influence

thank you for all your comments. Learnt a lot. I still shy away from fights or being too aggressive and try to focus on creating good shapes for now... My feeling is I have an idea of what I want to do.. but executing it... the local moves and not reading the other player's moves undos me. I hear ...

Re: Using influence

My thinking process was 71 was to cut into white's area while forming my own area in the middle. I knew it would require an extra move on the left capping his stones on the left, and it was kind of loose, but I didn't know how else to try and form some territory in the middle but to do that.

Re: Using influence

Thanks guys. Ed, for 75, where should I have answered that move? would J 12 be a better response for B?

Using influence

Hi guys, I went to a real life go club yesterday and it was interesting! I looked at 2x 2kyu players playing and noticed a strange opening and a very interesting game followed where the thole thing was about controlling the center of the board. I was told being fairly new I should focus on corners ...

Re: A beginner's game

No no... not some crazy talented person. Although I didn't play very much... I stood behind and watched a handful of games of players playing in a go club before I took a long hiatus. They explained a lot of things to me... opening moves, think about how your stones relate to each other etc. I ...

Re: A beginner's game

C1?? Or perhaps connecting that wall of stones? I felt a lot of pain losing them.

I have fully completed around 5 online games with people and around 10 with bots. I don't get enough time to sit down and play proper games.

I heard you should reach your first 100 losses as soon as possible... I ...

Re: A beginner's game

A beginner's game

Hi guys... I played a game as black. I am having trouble getting people online to review my games so I have little clue about what I'm doing as a beginner. Would anyone be able to give me some pointers in this game? A monkey jump (? is that what it's called?) completely destroyed my territory ...

Re: Pincer

The last variation is interesting, I had the thinking of bridging under in my original play, but you are right, I can see how black 8 is a mistake, introduces weaknesses, something to look out for next time, like Ed suggested, directly under may have been a better play.

Very enlightening. Thanks!

Re: Pincer

Thanks guys. Yeah that extra stone i forgot in the original question... Noticed something wasn't right when white had more stones than black.

I can see how my follow ups kind of dug myself in a hole. Very interesting indeed!

Appreciate the time to go through the variations and show my mistakes ...

Re: Pincer

Would you say my attempt to pincer in this situation was a mistake? Maybe perhaps if I had other stones I can?

Pincer

Hi guys, I am around 25k so may seem simple to most but here goes!

I was playing black, had a stone on the star point, then white approaches. I tried to pincer seeing this done before, but as soon as white jumps out, I feel as if I have two weak stones and cannot protect both, how do i respond ...
