Re: where to do a volume purchase of go stones?
If you are talking about getting many sets of stones (such as for a club), 6 Brothers in Korea is the way to do it. It helps if you have somebody who can write them in Hangul (Korean). They can do surface shipping, which takes a while, but keeps the cost down. In the past they wanted payment by ...

Re: AGA link on closing of Seattle Go Center
The Seattle Go Center has reopened at its temporary location at the Phinney Neighborhood Center, in a renovated school building from 1917. It will be open on Tuesdays 3-9 p.m., and Saturdays, 1-6 p.m. They have 18 table boards set up, plus an office, bathroom, and room for storage. They had a soft ...

Re: AGA link on closing of Seattle Go Center
I'm writing as a member of the Seattle Go Center, not as leadership. This is my own perspective. The Seattle Go Center property was owned by the Nihon Ki-in, but the Go Center worked hard to make the sale possible. (A change in local zoning to high density with tall buildings caused our property ...

I infer that he plays. Note that he has several boards in use at the Seattle Center, only one of which, quite thick at 6-7cm, was pictured.
Steve Pell is a beginner - we have been giving him lessons at the Seattle Go Center. His boards vary from 4cm to 8cm. In response to previous comments, I ...

Re: Boards from USA craftsmen
Steve is using CNC equipment, so once he gets a design he likes, he should be able to do an edition of boards, and get some economies of scale.

Re: Boards from USA craftsmen
Steve Pell in Bellingham WA is experimenting with different board designs, often using yellow cedar. He has about 5 different boards on loan to the Seattle Go Center for testing. Here is an older post with a photo:

Good point! I reread them. A while back we had to value a goban, and I was very grateful that the value was well under $5000, so we did not need a professional appraisal to determine its value.

Re: Estimating value of donated Go books
Thanks for your advice, guys. In general, I am now thinking of assigning values for common books in good condition closer to their list price than I was before. I may come back later for help with the uncommon books.

Re: Estimating value of donated Go books
In the past, we have seen some very strange pricing from Amazon partners. They will sometimes list a used Go book as being far more expensive than a new one would cost from Kiseido, etc. That's why I'm asking you guys!

Estimating value of donated Go books
The Seattle Go Center has recently received several large donations of used Go books. This is good. We will put most of them in our lending library, while adding the rare ones to our reference library. Books that are common, but in very good condition, may be kept for prizes.

KCC Igo also known as Silver Igo and Ginsei igo
With all the discussion of AlphaGo, I got to thinking about the Go playing program from North Korea, which was first known as KCC Igo, and later distributed in Japan as Silver Igo and Ginsei igo. Is that still being updated? I understand that at one point, it was one of the best programs out there ...
