Re: Name my KGS tool library

Yes...if you want something that describes its function, you can be serious (but not especially exciting)..KGS Tools etc.

Or think or an interesting noun to put after KGS and once it's hugely popular no one will ever question it (KGS Station, KGS Platform, KGS Tower...)

Or go crazy and just come ...

Re: Placing one little stone at a time...

LONG...road back to this thread.

My wife had a very serious spine injury, and Go just faded right out of life, I didn't even think of it for something like a year. I deeply and sincerely apologise to all my opponents who won by timeout.

SO...back and hungry!

Re: How has Go changed your thinking or philosophy?

Go has taught me that there are such things as insurmountable walls. I've never failed at anything before I got into Go.

That's quite a strange idea. The idea of ' insurmountable ' as mentioned above, but also that you've failed at Go! ' Lost games ' I understand. ' Played stupid moves ...

Re: bilingualism and go strength

Take something very complex like language learning...and if you formalize it too much, the very essence of it slips away.

Maybe the same with Go?

Re: bilingualism and go strength

There have the problem in a nutshell! Language training is suffering from just this at the moment. Companies want to be able to MEASURE the progress that students make (even over 20 or 30 hours of classes). In order to try to do that, they invent metrics (like the TOEIC test) to measure levels ...

Re: Go style and go personality

Finite Go vs Infinite Go, quite apart from giving exhilirating potential names for books, explains very simply why lower level players do things that seem a bit random...their (my!) finite horizon is so very very close. Sailing over that horizon to find adventure and excitement is virtually the ...

Re: bilingualism and go strength

I think when become very accomplished in a second language you realise how far from being bilingual you are. I too jnow translators and interpreters who wouldn't dream of calling themselves 'bilingual' (although many people use the word on their CVs .

For me (perhaps like John), it's the idea of ...

Over the years, I've met a few people, in real life,
where some characteristics of their personality map directly , one to one,
to some aspects of their Go moves.
I wonder if others have also had this experience.
Oh god yes, and not always in a good way

When you play you make many decisions ...

No; I must be pushing 20. The problem is I don' have many chunks of time to dedicate to live games and was worried that this two things (long turn games + analyze features) were counterproductive to my developing my skills. Knowing this may probably not change the factor of available time, but ...

Placing one little stone at a time...

Yes....I'm pretty much a total beginner.

Yes....I'm still losing fighting in my first 100 games.

And No...That doesn't discourage me

In fact, I've been looking through some of the things people have in THEIR study journals, and I just find the idea fantastic. And I imagine that the people ...

Re: Reading books to improve?

Well, I suppose that that explains why I haven't improved much lately. Not bored enough.

Well, if you don't feel like the effort is worth the gain, that's your choice.

Luckily, none of our lives rest on this game.

If you happen to know of a pleasant, easy, gentle and highly entertaining way to ...
