Re: Katago's Inefficient Reversion
Just out of curiosity: How would this word with superko rules, where it might later matter how you got to a particular position?

Re: Go, historical games beyond Japan's 400 years
+ The Western Pros. I'm not aware of a single commented game on Hans Pietsch. That's a shame. Literally.
Funny you should say that. The first book I got on go ends with a (very briefly) commented game (in German) Hans Pietsch 1p vs Yoda Norimoto 9p (LG Cup 1997 1st round, Pietsch won by 1/2 pt ...

Re: Pair ko rule: a practical alternative to superko
I like that formulation better than the list.
It is very counterintuitive that an „under the stones ko threat“ can‘t be used in the same ko as the threat before, but can be used in a different ko. I do think this could actually affect „normal“ play, where we have no double kos or antything like it

Re: Pair ko rule: a practical alternative to superko
I do not understand how you imagine this to work. After the first capture in a ko, can i recapture immediately without playing a ko threat? It seeems so, I dont see what would prevent it.

Re: Endgame position and miai value analysis
In the diagram undertitled WWBW, imo white 5 should be destroying the eye at a instead of blocking the side, which also protects the side at the same time, because of blacks damezumari. This is also the reason why imo black 4 should also be making the eye at a instead of a hane on the side)

Re: Sesqui-Eyed Go
I assume this means for example black cannot capture any Kos etc.
Really a lot of handicaps. I cannot prove it, but I would definitely fancy my chances as white on 9 stones against an equally strong opponent using those rules

Re: Engame value of ko
I disagree. I think it is completely uneccessary to count the position where white plays 3 times. It will just never happen, unless it is used as a ko threat in another ko. The reasoning is similar to any other connect and die: white will just never capture there, unless its big for black to answer ...

Re: Contradictory AI theory, plus the value of Komi
No, white is last to play in games that have an odd amount of territory between both players (plus liberies in seki, that are very unlikely, as you say). And that is more or less 50/50 to me.
With the komi 5,5 vs 6,5 its different, because black winning by 6 in territory rules already implied white ...

Re: Contradictory AI theory, plus the value of Komi
I'm not quite sure what you're saying, if the Komi of 7 includes a boundary effect
Let's forget Japanese rules or any territory rules and just focus on Chinese rules or area rules in general. AI and humans 7 points is the correct Komi.
I agree until here.

Re: Contradictory AI theory, plus the value of Komi
I disagree, because to me, I‘m not sure Japanese Komi is correctly 6. In my mind, it could just as well be 7, I just dont know. Thats why I prefer to thing of the 7 chinese komi to be fundamental and 1 point potentially missing to be a „boundary effect“ that I can round to half a point.

Re: Contradictory AI theory, plus the value of Komi
For the first question: I do not think it is either. AI does value influence. It dosent get „scared“ of huge Moyos as humans do, cause it knows the opponent can still get his fair share, but that does not mean it does not value the influence.
And yes, I do think that depending on your ability, you ...

Re: How to improve on this
Since your experience is rather general, concrete answers are difficult.
But, if the game went as it sounds like, you did not fail at making eyes, but rather having to make eyes is already a failure. Instead, stay connected!

Re: easy life go
This is also known as „one-eyed go“. It is hard to make large territories in this ruleset, invasions become very easy. False eyes are also good enough in this case.
