Re: First game as a 3k ? Let's lose epicly.

Ultimately, I felt white was behind by the time he played , so I feel the problem must have come either from the joseki choice in the top right (it's not what I would have played but I can't say its wrong)

No, I think you're spot on. That joseki left me with an uncaptured ladder stone which I ...

First game as a 3k ? Let's lose epicly.

This is precisely what happened. Having gotten out of torpor, having done a lot of tsumego recently, I'm slowly getting back into the game and guess what, that got me to 3k so I decided to celebrate... by playing a game ! And this is the pathetic result. To say my opponent toyed with me like a dog ...

More seriously, congratulations, Toge !

I'm late to the discussion but there's an app - err, a site for that.

Mine is "don't suck" but I should get more specific, because recently I'm doing the very opposite.

Re: handicap for black

i think that black getting a handi actually makes it harder to win because when i have handi i have no idea what to do after white takes his/her turn so i always end up losing the game (most of the time it is a close game) and i was wondering what most people worry about when they have handi.
If ...

Re: Weirdly aggressive 11k

Just some random thoughts.

15 : The cut at R5 looks nasty, this move should have been used to protect against it.
43 : I feel this goes against Black 41. Black made a nice dumpling with the J7 group : by leaving the L8 stones to die, White can easily connect to his other stones and live. Playing ...

Re: Martial arts thread

As a kid, I did some judo - enough to get my orange belt, but I never got really hooked. Then, when I was around 20, I took kenpo karate lessons and get my green belt.

I took wing chun classes for a few weeks but I had to stop for various reasons. The first being that I lost my job and I needed to ...

Re: 11k vs 15k friendly match

I'm not going to do a full review, but my general feeling is that Black's play is way too passive. Handicap stones are made to attack ! For instance, I'd play B14 around K16. B28 is another passive, territory-hugging response. Q12 would attack the stone, weakening the N16 group.

Re: Physical Exercise and Go

I've been training in the gym since february.

Number of stones I've gained since then : 1.5
Number of stones I gained the previous year in the same time span, with similar effort and study : 2

This is irrelevant. Each stone is progressively harder to gain, anyway.

Precisely. What I wanted to ...

Hmm, I haven't been paying attention here lately, so I don't know what the "heated debate" is that you speak of... however....

You did link to my favorite xkcd ever... so I thought I would reply
I think it has become some kind of a running joke in pretty much any geekish (and some not-so-geekish ...

Re: Game I shouldn't have won

#22: This is a big group cowering in fear of one stone. Either magnanamously ignore the pipsqueak with a tenuki, or crush him for his impudence by playing C14.
Granted, the threat was not so big, but I was concerned about White connecting to his C6 stone, robbing the whole group of its base ...

Game I shouldn't have won

Hello everyone !

Even though Starcraft II is eating lots of my time nowadays, I still find time for go ! Yup.

This game was played at 2 handicap, with me taking black. I had a terrible opening, coupled with a failed invasion. 2 big captures got me back in the game and I won by a tiny 1.5 points. I ...
