Re: KGS Player -----> Wbaduk
Try sending the confirmation E-mail to another E-mail address, if you have one. Over the last few months, a scheme to combat spam called DMARC has been put into action by several major E-mail sites. Without going into detail, it tries to guarantee that the domain on the "From" address matches the ...

Re: hi gg tx
A quick question for daal (and others).
How would you feel about a go server that required a positive comment at the end of a game? Maybe enforced by losing a few elo points if you didn't comply?
Would that reduce jerkism in your eyes or would it be a heavy-handed silly "feature" that offends ...

Small correction: KGS offers tournaments for KGS+ members and 40 non-KGS+ members. I don't recall ever seeing 40 people participate in total.

Re: The go of Venus and Mars
I doubt social expectations come into play when your goal is to compete for money (professional context)
Except that social expectations influence unconsciously or in ways that cannot be simply eliminated because your goal doesn't make reference to social expectations. This is supported by a good ...

Oh, I recently watched a YT-clip of one of Park's matches (with JP commentators) and they kept pronouncing his name "Paku". It sounds kind of endearing.

Re: Will u lose interest in GO if AI is better than people?
If chess is any indication, people won't really care.
I wonder. If fascination is based on intractability, that fascination should vanish as soon as the problem is solved.
But sometimes, fascination arises from the meta-game. Some people still play tictactoe to pass the time and you don't even need ...

Interesting.
why is it that men and women are also on different levels when it comes to mind sports? It would be helpful if you defined "on different levels". Do you mean
a) men are stronger (e.g. higher rated) than women on average or
b) more men than women (in absolute figures) rise to the top ...

Do card games count? I mean, in a way, they're card-board games.
Try "Grave Robbers from Outer Space". Hilarious.

Well, on paper, both Japan and Korea still have a chance.
But... Murakawa has been slumping hard recently, with 11/32 (34%, src: goratings) in 2015 overall and 1-5 (17%) versus non-JP.
Such a shame Kono and Paku failed to make an impact. Gu Li is probably still laughing.

A structured waste of time
Good day to you, dear reader and future backseat critic.
Inspired by Ed's terrific status quo report on study goals, I decided to start an experiment.
What kind of experiment? The kind that corrects a logical flaw in most people's "study journal" logic. Usually, creators of these journals confuse ...

Re: Which solution to complex kos do you prefer?
I think
1) a game should be finite
2) in finite play, jigo should be possible
3) a game should only count as won if player A can force a result in which B ends up with fewer points
If neither player can force a winning position in finite play, the game should be a draw.
Here, it's irrelevant ...

Surprise, China wins. ~
I was reading this thread and that was kind of misleading for someone like me who just wanted to catch up on the news. After all, it is not over yet, but China is leading.
I'm pleased to hear that you did not let your initial misjudgement of my comment stop you from ...

"The Many Faces of Go" uses the .go (ishi go file) and .prb (problem file) formats.

You can also just inspect them with a text editor (but you might spoil the answer if the problem is a tsumego).
