Re: Malkovich registration - sign up here to play
:rambo: I would like to get back into playing Go again, and a Malkovich Game seems like the way to go here.
Real-life got in the way, and my game with SinK got derailed. I would like to formally resign so it's not a Zombie thread just waiting for two players to come back to the game.

Re: Complexity of Chess versus Go
Yet another view describes the relative impact of strategy, tactics, positional judgement, psychology and time management. Go seems to emphasise strategy and tactics equally; Chess emphasises tactics over strategy.
I would argue that Go is more about the over-arching strategy of the game more ...

Re: How should I begin studying Joseki?
Chess openings are anything but simple. Sure, you can get by with general principles, but sometimes the move that violates the principles is the correct move.
I believe that the idea here is chess openings are simple compared to the rest of the game. I would tend to agree that both chess and go ...

Re: League of Legends
I know this is a necrobump but just wondering if people still play the game. My second cousin introduced me to the game 5 months ago, and I'm almost level 30. Usually, I play Ahri or Zyra mid, but I'm trying to get better at the ADC role.

Re: Popularity of Go In 100 Years
I suspect that computers will be stronger than the best humans in 50 years or less, and that the appeal of go will therefore suffer. I expect a slight decline.
Chess has never been more popular than it is now (computers can easily beat the best humans), and I have absolutely no doubt that Go ...

Not necessarily. Chess programs easily beat the best humans, yet chess is still interesting to some people.Mivo wrote:Or when computers beat the best pros!Exologist wrote:As far as the entire human race goes, this game will only get old when we become God.

Re: Chess v Go
I'm glad we don't have so many draws in go, it seems to dull the game somewhat. Anand won the World Chess Championship not to long ago with 2 wins, 1 loss, and 13 draws!
Draws are part of the game, unfortunately, but they don't necessarily dull the game. There are some draws that are exciting ...

That was the dutch representative's response to seeing the above player play... what happens when the overplay never comes?
He was watching the Butcher smash one of my teammates, and as my teammate resigned, made a number of comments about how he could have won.
The Butcher merely directed him ...

Re: How to hide opponents' avatars if you want to
The avatars feature on KGS is great, but occasionally you might meet someone whose avatar disturbs you or even offends you in some way. For sure it's possible to stick a piece of paper on your monitor or to shift the playing screen to the right, but there are downsides to those methods.

This. I'm still trying to unlearn this. It's very hard to unlearn once you learn, but it can be done.daal wrote: The caveat was that not thinking long enough became a habit that took quite a while to unlearn.

Fast games are a way to test multiple things quickly. They could help with repetition, too. I think the best way to improve is by mixing fast games with slow games.

Re: Ranking Systems: Have you considered TrueSkill?
You can't really compare your South African rank with your rank on KGS. Here's why: They have two completely different pools of players, and all a ranking is, is a comparison of how well you are playing within that pool of players.
