Re: Can amateurs have their own style?

This discussion seems rather semantic to me... the argument can be essentially reduced to 'what is style?' If we strictly defined style as 'a set of preferences, strengths, and weaknesses', I don't think anyone would disagree that amateurs have a style, even if the 'style' is mostly centered around ...

Re: Game Review Request [KGS 5k]

why should black provoke white to make more moves that strengthen white and thereby weaken the black left corner? If the K16 stone gets good results by extending toward the center, why not do that immediately?

Huh, excellent point!

Just tell the OP that the K16 stone is screaming "That way ...

Re: Game Review Request [KGS 5k]

A few thoughts on the opening.

Awesome. I have never heard the idea of not attaching to sabaki, but it makes a lot of sense. I looked at several variations here, but did not consider K15... I love the idea there. Can definitely see how I could have come out much further ahead through these ...

Game Review Request [KGS 5k]

Hi folks,

Just won a game I think I should have lost, but am having trouble identifying any significant mistakes. Any reviews that can identify my slow/bad moves or an overall weakness would be greatly appreciated! No need for a move-by-move analysis, just seeking a general idea of where I went ...

Re: Update on Taiwanese weiqi scene

Hope I'm not being too much of a necro... Anyone from Taiwan have some updates to share on clubs / meetings in the area? As a CGA 7/8 kyu, is there any chance of finding even opponents, or will most venues be full of mid-dans as described earlier in the thread?

Also, curious about buying equipment ...

Re: 12-14Kyu Player Looking for Online Games

Hey Jeff,

I've been playing exclusively on OGS and have had pretty good luck at the same rating as you. Do you primarily look for open games, or have you tried creating your own challenges? I always create my own challenges (30 min main time + 30x5 byoyomi) and haven't run into issue, although I ...
