Re: Shusaku invincible

I probably also got it around 15k, but enjoyed it. Enough that when it came out on SmartGo Books I purchased it again.

Probably even a bigger question than your rank is whether or not you are the sort of person who enjoys professional game commentaries. So look at some free ones -- say at ...

Re: Installing Java under Yosemite

I have Yosemite installed, and I haven't had any problems
with Java or cgoban. I did install a pretty recent version
of Java, since I don't trust the ancient one that comes with
OS X to be securely up to date.

If you go to m and
click through the warnings to get java 8 u25 (you want
something like ...

Re: 10 games match Lee Sedol vs Gu Li

True.. under the added assumption that the outcomes of the games are uncorrelated. Which probably isn't true. But with only 44 games between them, there's no way there's enough data to extract solid information about the correlations, so emeraldemon's calculation is probably about as good as you are ...

Re: Location of the Kamakura games

Thanks.

Sadly, the playing location at Engaku-ji wasn't open to the public when I visited. But Kamakura was nice - well worth the visit. I actually think I enjoyed it more than Kyoto, since it was much less overrun with tourists.

Location of the Kamakura games

I'm going to be in Kamakura next week. Since that will surely involve visiting temples anyways, I thought it would be cool to visit the location of one of the Go Seigen-Kitani Minoru jubango games while I was there. I know at least one of the games was held at the Engaku-ji temple. Does anybody know ...

Re: Warning, Yunzi Stones Are Dangerous To Health

For whatever it's worth, I ran out and got a home lead testing kit for my Yunzi stones given to me for Christmas 2012, and it came back negative (that is: no lead detected).

Re: what do you do about a slump?

And I think what Karaklis is trying to say is that, for 50/50 coins, there is basically no chance that somebody would get 100/100 heads if everyone in the world tossed 100 coins.

The chance of getting 100 heads is about (1/2)^100 ~ 8 x 10^(-31). There are only 6 billion people in the world, so the ...

Glad to see the 10-game series books are continuing. I guess I really will need to break down and get an ipad now.

Re: To 5 kyu in 5 months! (We'll see about that)

Before I move on from that game, however, I would like to know from someone better at life and death (I'm better than I was, but still not great) if white could have killed my lower left corner with a different move at 110. (Clearly too lazy to read out all the variations...)

In isolation that ...

Re: The Life of Honinbo Shuei

I more or less have the opposite problem on my RMBP -- the
diagram is a lot bigger, taking up most of the room so that
I have to page back and forth between the comments and the
diagram. But this can be changed by setting the font controls.
I just don't want the bother of keeping different settings ...

Wow, that is stunning -- and saddening. Apparently I am also one of the elite few who own all four. I finished playing through all of them about a month ago -- quite enjoyable.

Re: Did Apple kill cgoban for me?

There is no need to reinstall KGS. Just update your Java to the version Oracle released today -- which you most definitely want to do anyways -- and it will run again.
