Re: Is leela zero really that strong?

That's the funny part, you will always lose by like 3 points. You will never beat it.

Maybe, but I beat it repeatedly by like 50 points at 5 stones.

I tried ignoring its moves in the corner, sometimes ignoring everything and making a loose line of stones down the center. It isn't the best way ...

Re: Is not defending them effective against programs?

You may enjoy taking handicap stones from Deep Leela at https://www.deepleela.com . It is Leela 11, which is weaker than Leela Zero, but was trained on human play, so it plays handicap games in a more human manner. :)

Is there a way to configure deepleela not to show suggested moves for its ...

Re: Is not defending them effective against programs?

With which bots did you observe these weaknesses? Even games or handicap games? How many stones handicap, and how many playouts per move?

Not on the really strong configurations. Against regular leela and leelaz on my laptop at like 500 playouts/move at a 4 stone handicap. I would assume the ...

Is not defending them effective against programs?

I have found that programs get confused when you do things like making approach moves and not responding to the programs reply in the corner, or putting in stone in the middle of the programs extension and then ignoring its reply. Also, sacrificing small numbers of stones seems to work.

The ...

Re: Is leela zero really that strong?

I was averaging significantly less than 5 seconds per move, but since I am not a computer I wasn't taking exactly 5 seconds for each move.

So I know the breakthrough was using AI techniques, and that chess programs were successful mostly without them. However, I guess computational power is still ...

Re: Is leela zero really that strong?

I tried it without the time settings and it took about 40 seconds per move, so at 5 seconds, it is getting like 300 playouts. How much weaker would that make it?

Re: Is leela zero really that strong?

I will look into some of the other alternatives mentioned.

leelaz-model-swa-24-192000_quantized Is this the right weight file? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FV6dSjnx7jY It was recommended by that video.

I lost to leelaz by 3 points at 3 stones, so I have a hard time believing it could beat a top ...

Re: Is leela zero really that strong?

I don't know how to post a smart go format game, but I just crushed it at 5 stones. I sacrificed 3 stones early on and it removed them from the board when that was totally unnecessary. It let me play the 3x4 point under my handicap stone with an shimari to the 7x3 point, solidifying a huge territory ...

Re: Is leela zero really that strong?

I changed the configuration to not resign. I then played a game where it edged me out at the end by 3 points at 6 stones and I won easily at 7 stones. I couldn't often beat a weak professional player at 7 stones and I play regular leela at 4 stones. I might be able to beat leelaz at 5 stones with ...

Re: Is leela zero really that strong?

Is there a way to configure it not to resign? When I play leelaz at 5 stones, it will resign when I think it still has good chances due to its skill advantage.

It also doesn't run if I take out the --noponder option.

As far as invading at the 3x3 point, it does it in situations where it clearly ...

Re: Is leela zero really that strong?

Even though it didn't know how to play a 4-stone handicap game, I didn't think leelaz on my computer played anything like the level of a top pro. I was surprised. Is there a way to configure it to play stronger? I was hoping to learn a lot playing 9-stone games against a top pro level program, but ...

Above is how I have it configured. Is there a way to configure it to play stronger? I am using a 2 year old standard high end laptop.

You are obviously a stronger player than me. However ...

Also, its strength depends a lot on the number of visits. How many visits per move did you use?
What's a visit, and how do you configure that?

Is leela zero really that strong?

I heard it was beating professional players. However, I just downloaded it, and I have good chances against it taking a 4 stone handicap. I play the regular leela at that same handicap. It doesn't use or select joseki. It seems to play terrible against handicap stones. It seems to usually enter at ...
