Haven’t finalized this summer’s plans, yet… :-)

Would definitely be good to meet, sometime!

Anyone in London?

Anyone in the London area? I am traveling and plan to visit the London Go Centre on March 26, 2025 (assuming they are open, as the website suggests).

Happy to meet anyone who shows up!

Maybe it was Joaz's intention to identify those people here :-p

Re: The Korean scene - some surprising facts

The biggest travesty here is that Kim Eunji is still a pro.

Anyway, personally, I don't really care what rank a pro has. There are many cases where it does not correlate to actual strength. It's nice to get a title, just like in other fields, but it doesn't guarantee anything. There are plenty of ...

Go problems sometimes have multiple solutions. Seems fine to me.

Re: How TelegraphGo became 9d on Fox in 7 years

I agree that such honesty is a vital step (and not just in go) but I'm not sure that the answer would necessarily be "do more reading."

Sure. But I think many people (myself included) overestimate their reading ability, and attribute losses to other aspects of the game. I believe this is also ...

Re: How TelegraphGo became 9d on Fox in 7 years

Nate said various things in the video, but my biggest takeaway was this: be honest with yourself about what separates your current skill from that of a higher level player.

Regarding his note about "If you can read very well, it's hard not to become 9 dan"... Most people agree that reading is ...

Re: Attack from your weakness towards your strenght?

If we are looking for a general rule, the general rule should be to utilize an attack to achieve the biggest benefit. If insufficiently significant benefit can be made, hold off on making the attack.

It is difficult to get more specific than that while maintaining accuracy.

Reasons for attack ...

Re: A small base is worse than no base

By the way... I have been playing a little bit more, lately, and I don't think it's super useful to make a lot of heuristics. I mainly keep in mind: I need more points. If a group is too weak, the opponent can get forcing moves, which may lead to more points/efficiency.

Outside of that, I'm not ...

Re: A small base is worse than no base

At the end of the day, you win the game if you have more points. A caveat to this is that, if your group is weak, you cannot efficiently make points - your opponent can attack and get better exchanges. Note that you can also get points in the center. So if you aren't making a lot of points on the ...

Re: Why does AGA not push KGS into a decent web-interface?

There are lots of players available 24/7 on fox, so it's easy to get a game. The ranking system is also better than KGS's for improving players. So if you just want to play games, fox is a better option.

What KGS had going for it before was the Western go player community. To get that back, it'd be ...

Re: The blunder in Korean Yongseong, final 2

I was told that this was an error in the move order of transcribing of the game. Apparently, after white P9 in the game, B L17, W T14, B T17, W Q19 was the order actually played in the game.
