Re: Online Tournament - 100$ to Winner!

Hey, nyuubi.

To tell you the truth, I chose the same time settings as for King of Kings tournament on Tygem. First, I wanted to make it 30 min but then 1 round would take 2 hours. So far I want the tournament to be within 2 days during the weekend.

In any case for the future my goal is to make ...

Re: Online Tournament - 100$ to Winner!

Hi, Celebrir.

Yes, you're right. The tournament is scheduled for 6 rounds in case there is 64 players. But I believe we won't reach that number, so there will be less rounds (it depends on the amount of registered players). So far 12 players registered, it means we have 4 rounds.

Forming a study group

Hi,

I'd like to start a study group on KGS. For players around 1kyu-2d, for serious players who can devote time and money to become stronger. Planned budget is 40 Eur per person a month, to have scheduled group lessons with 5-6d on KGS: simul games + reviews.

I found out that it's too expensive ...

Re: New ideas in pro games

I'm not sure. It wasn't common invasion by black, rather he tried to exploit bad aji in corner. So white secured the corner and black gained outside influence. So in normal conditions where white is strong, I believe there is no invasion in such formation.

Re: New ideas in pro games

Oh, really? I would never think Go Seigen was the one to introduce this move. Right, Nagano, w forces b to take the corner for influence. I just don't like to set my position too early in the game, I like it to be flexible. With this move you kind of open your cards saying you want influence and not ...

New ideas in pro games

Hey, guys! I enjoy watching pro games although I don't understand most of what's going on in the game. But sometimes I meet new moves which I haven't seen before and are not reviewed in books or databases. It's always useful to play some new moves in your games to stay creative and fresh

Re: Time Tesuji

I got an advice from Jeff Chang (8d on kgs) that you should think for at least 20 seconds before every move in spite of move being obvious or not. This helps in yose where lots of kyu and low dan players tend to answer automatically without thinking, not looking for the best answer. One of the ...

What was your shortest game?

As far as I can remember my shortest game on 19x19 board was played a few months ago in Insei League. My kgs level is around 1 kyu and I played even game against kgs 4 dan player. I resigned just after 25 moves! If you read Kogo joseki dictionary you should have came across mistakes in joseki after ...

Pro’s shining moves

There was a great thread started at GoDiscussions by a user called nchh. Unfortunately after GD was closed it's not available anymore. Is it possible to restore it from archive?

The shining move was played in this awesome game:

Black: Kong Jie 9p
White: Mok Jinseok 9p
Match: 15th LG Cup round two ...

Amazing ladder

Here is my recent game I played on KGS. It's unfinished but I still reviewed it and found an amazing ladder. Luckily I avoided it in my game ( I didn't see it at that time). Remind me of a an invisible ladder in famous pro game.

Here is the game. Check move 88. In the game I played N1 (which ...
