"Can you hear my voice?" (which was one of the first things Sai said to Hikaru)
Then later in the video "Sai was here to connect a distant past to a distant future"

Re: How to make KGS better?
I wish KGS would keep my last solid rank if I stop playing for a while. I no longer play regularly and every time I come back to KGS I have no rank or some crazy rank with a ?.

Re: Opinion on the Kido Cup twitch live stream
Thanks a lot for taking the time to write such an in-depth reply! There is certainly a lot of factors to balance, I wrote my impression as a viewer, I hope it can be useful but I know criticism is easy: the reality of actually producing such content is a whole different thing.

Opinion on the Kido Cup twitch live stream
First a big thank you to the commentators and all the people who made the broadcast possible. There were lots of viewers at times and that's a great way to promote go.
Now unfortunately I think the way the commentary was organized was less than ideal. The problem being that the commentary starts ...

Re: Mainstream Go Sightings
I'm really enjoying this game and I'd recommend it if you like this type of empire management game. Since it's a strategy game, the goal is not retell the story, but rather to use it as a background. I had no previous Three Kingdoms knowledge or expectations, but now I started reading the book and ...

Re: Improvement???
From what I have seen, the time it takes for that initial improvement has no influence on how people will be able to progress later. Some people just "get it" right away and then get stuck later, others progress slowly at first but then go through the ranks steadily.

Re: Mainstream Go Sightings
One of the trailers for the PC strategy game Total War: Three Kingdoms uses go as part of its narrative. The game is based on Romance of the Three Kingdoms, a Chinese 14th century novel describing, with sometimes fantastical embellishments, the historical events of the 2nd and 3rd century CE, when ...

Re: AI flop?
It's just another case of humans trying to pass clownery as art for profit. Nothing new here.
And to be clear: the technique used to generate the portrait (no details provided in the article, but most likely GAN) is not clownery, just the process of selling it as a piece of art.

From the paper, the game time was 1 hour main time + 30s byo-yomi. This is no blitz trick.

This is huge. I hope somebody with Nature access can give us some details about under what conditions the games were played.
EDIT: Never mind the paper is available for free from Google's website:

Re: There really is a hot hand
The article is particularly unclear and unhelpful. Look at the table on page 5 of the actual paper and you should understand what's going on. Basically because you're flipping a coin 4 times in a row, and looking at streaks only in those 4. Then repeating again, you add some bias to your experiment ...

Re: At least he didn't throw the board and pieces at his opp
I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often. It's pretty natural to be fed up with anything you do all the time. When combined with the stress of competition, it seems like that should be a pretty common reaction. My conclusion is that there must be a lot of filtering going on before getting to that ...
