Re: Greetings from Dallas, Tx
You don't have to notify anybody! I recommend just showing up between 5 PM and closing (10 PM). There should be people in the cafe playing for the whole period. It's busiest around 7-8ish, as far as go players go. Just walk up and say you play, and they can help you find an opponent or let you watch.

Howdy again, and welcome! I look forward to your eventual "yet another first single-digit-kyu post". (Sorry, computer game reference for the uninitiated).

Re: Roguelikes
In recent years I have played quite a bit of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup and have a handful wins and a couple of 15-rune games. I think it's a great game and the community around it are fantastic, but we're having some time apart
I like that I immediately thought your name was familiar, and it ...

1. Do you eat or drink while you play Go? If so, what are your favorites?
Chocolate milk or beer.
2. Do you have any nervous habits when you play Go?
Not that I am aware of?

Re: A strange opening move
I cannot offer a full review, as I am on my phone. However, I do not think w6 is to be feared unduly. I would probably use d17 to calmly block off your corner. If white tries to attack your top middle stone immediately with l17, you can extend from your top right to counterattack. This leaves your ...

I recommend "Graded Go Problems for Dan Players Volume 3 - Joseki." Could you post 1 problem from the book ? I'm considering to buy it. Thanks.
Okay, here goes. A bit rusty on diagrams. Here's one that's on the easy end, ish. This is Book one, Chapter Two. Page 70, overall:
