Regarding Nick Sibicky's latest video, he talks about how different opening moves give him different impressions. In any case, I'd like to share what mine are:

4-4: Hi, I'm boring
3-4: I'm cool and calm
3-3: I don't know how to play go (Don't ask me why)
3-5: I'm a badass
4-5: I have no clue what I'm doing
Tengen: I'm a troll
6-3 and 6-4: Come at me, bro.

I don't know why I feel that way from 3-3 and 4-5 but oh well.

10-2: I can beat you with one hand tied behind my back.

Pass: I have reverse komi (just in case you pass also.)

but seriously, why the judgment on 3-3? For a few years I used to play that in every game.

I mostly judge the first two moves:

4*4 / 4*4 - I'm boring.
4*4 / 3*4 - I have TOTALLY memorised like 3 to 5 moves in the [insert popular Fuseki]! (If Shimari is played next, everything is peachy =D)
3*4 / 3*4 - I'm in love with the classics.
Everything higher than 4*4 - I think I'm cool.

It probably comes from the few people I've played who have done 3-3.

The opening moves don't matter, it only matters what you do in the middle game.

But even then it mostly doesn't matter what the opponent does, it's up to you to make the game fun and exciting. It's an issue of taking responsibility for your own actions and your own ability to make an exciting and interesting game rather than blaming it on the opponent.

I feel like double 4-4 is, come at me. Whatever you got I'm ready for it.

And any other opening is more like, I have a plan, we're doing what I say.

If you have a bad opening then it doesn't matter what you do in the middle game - unless the opponent makes a mistake you will lose.

4-4: Lets have a nice game
3-4: Weird (don't ask me why)
3-3: I'm gonna invade the sh*t out of you(usually followed by another 33 and then Tengen)
Tengen: Troll
Anything else: I saw a pro do it herpderp

4-4 --> I might take the corner, or not. Perhaps sides? Meh I have no idea what I want.

3-4 --> My corner, but you might still win it over. Also I am kinda interested in one side.

3-3 --> My corner, MINE!!!!! I don't care about anything else.

5-3 --> I know all the joseki of this move and I am ready to screw you over because you are not prepared!!!

5-4 --> Same as 5-3 but more interested in influence.

Anything else --> Ether a noob, or pro, or someone drunk?

Okay, let's give it a try.

3-3: Someone who is either experimenting or was influenced by the games of Sakata (from pre-1970) or Cho (post-1970)

3-4: Someone who learned the game many years ago and mastered the joseki before 4-4 became so prevalent

4-4: Someone who is too lazy to learn 3-4 joseki or who learned the game recently (as in the last 20-30 years)

3-5: Someone who learned the relevant joseki and wants to take advantage of the fact that the opponent probably didn't

3-4: Same as 3-5 but more influences by the 4-4 than the 3-4.

Anything else: a radical who doesn't like to conform to the norm.

I like when someone picks a random spot far from the corners for an opening move and manages to create a winning strategy.

A thoroughly enjoyable thread...

I don't like 4x4 because it does not guarantee me a corner. I do not like 3x3 since it gives me a corner and not much else. Now that I think about it I do not like any of the openings, there is just too much give and take in this game I am going back to E2 to E4, and C7 to C5.

Pax et bonum!

Post subject:  Re: What feelings do you get from various opening moves?

4-4: I'm an individual, just like everyone else
3-4: I am both competent and unimaginative
3-3: I am a pillbug, curled up in a ball
3-5: I like to mix it up
4-5: Fight me! Fight me!
5-5: I still refuse to accept that the shinfuseki thing has had its day
10-10: I'm gonna pick fights in every corner because all the ladders work for me
Elsewhere: I wear hand-knitted sweaters and broken thick-rimmed glasses repaired with tape

Man, I really would like to see something like this in real live, a guy opens 4-4 and half of the spectators start shouting "boooring"

Post subject:  Re: What feelings do you get from various opening moves?

3-3 - I'm just a little scared
3-4 - I'm balanced
4-4 - I'm fast
3-5 - I'm clever
5-4 - I'm a bully
Tengen - I have a plan
Other - I'm a go hipster

Nah, more likely:

5-4 --> I am uncomfortable in the opening, let us play something you don't know either.

2-2 --> I am a pretentious, little  with way too much sparetime.
5-5 --> I am Hikaru.
Most copy-paste whole board openings --> I have seen this in a professional game.

No feelings for 3-3, 3-4, 4-4 here.

This.

And this is why I play 4-4 :)

Also:
5-3 or 5-4: "Look, I learned this cool joseki today.:
4-4 and then 3-4: "Chinese is the only fuseki I know."
