Is anyone else signed up for the World Mind Games / Pandanet tournament? I'm registered in C class. It will be my first go tournament of any fashion, so I'm looking forward to it. :-)

I just entered into the main class :) I'm quite "pumped" actually, it's only my third time entering any kind of tournament whatsoever, the previous two not being anything close to this scale (a 25 player mcmahon, and a tiny just-for-fun SDK swiss). Apart from my primary reason to enter the main class (a secret plan to win all my games and hopefully beat a few strong Asian high dans :rambo: ...it's a secret plan so don't tell anyone :D ) , I rarely have had opportunities to play against stronger players until very recently, so my baduk level will jump! (hopefully)

Good luck! (we both don't know the rules of Go yet so guess it won't hurt to say we need it XD)

Good luck to everyone! I'm very excited... I believe my first round will be at 2300 hours. I will be drinking coffee and yerba mate to be very alert.

Oh, I thought that in the preliminaries, You could just hop onto the server any time whatsoever between October 8th and October 38th, and play a few games in the tournament room?

Oh, I didn't know that. I thought there were a time schedule. If it is like you say "play whenever you like"... that will be great.

Well according to http://pandanet-igs.com/communities/pandanet/220

Time schedules are in fact used, but only in the single-elimintion draw, which is done after all of preliminaries have been played. Of course, you may indeed end up playing in a schedule ;-) but If You've entered the main class, it would be a strech.

But instead of looking at it in this way:

"Why would I stand a chance against lot's of high level Dan players?"

I'm trying to look at it like this:

"Why can't I enter the main draw just because a few people with imprtant-looking numbers attached to their names are in abundance?"

Oh man, the timing is going to be confusing. After you said that I realized that it is the 8th in Japan!

It won't be too bad during the preliminary rounds since we have more than two weeks to get in 6 games, but if you get past the first round you'll certainly need to be careful with the dates!

Excuse, me, but I undetstand that there may be a few top european players participating ^^ only 52 people in the E&A region avtually played a game, so it's a pleasant surprise to find that despite my horrible 2/13 score, I've qualified for the last preliminary. Now, I wonder if there are any top EU players I do not know are participating. Here are my guesses so far (not justof the top europeans):

Cornel-Cornel Burzo
CP-Cristian Pop
fernando-Fernando Aguilar
roln- could it be possible it's the "farmer"/the "cutter" (you know what, I'll just call him the "combine harvester") Ilya Shikishin of Russia!!! The real roln!!! seems pretty strong lookin at his record, but...
RoseDuke-Victor Guang Chow

That's all I know. And I wonder who shimara is, I'm facing him on Nov 11th...?

Well, that makes me think of Jan Simara, especially as "Simara" in Czech is pronounced "shimara", but that is just an idea that came to me when reading your post, I have no idea about the tournament, or the involvement of this player
