Does anybody here use this? I'm a little bit confused about some of the options for how to set up a game. Thanks!

Are you talking about DGS? It is not a client, just a server.

I think it has a mobile client somewhere...

It has a webpage and multiple mobile clients, so it would be helpful to know which one.

When I used andgs, I set up all game on the web site and played them on the phone client.

Sorry, the name of the client is Dragon Go Client. It is an iPhone app. I can definitely see how you could set games up on the web and just play on the client, but it seems like you ought to be able to set up games on the client as well, especially if what you want is fairly standard settings...

The + button on the upper right of the games list (the screen also has "your move" and "all games" buttons at the top) is what you are after. You can join and create new games from there.

Yes, I got that far. Then from there I can't figure out how to get a game with "normal" handicap - meaning automatically by rank difference. There's one option that says, "Komi Type" and that is set to Manual Handicap, whatever that means, and there's nothing you can change it to. Then for Game Style there's Nigiri, Double, Take Black, and Take White. Nothing this says Conventional or Proper, which is what I was expecting to see based on what I read in the DGS FAQ. Then there's Handicap, which can be set 0-21, but what I want is to set it automatically. (What would that do anyway? Give you a handicap of, say, 3, no matter the rank of your opponent?) Any tips?? Thanks!!

Hmmm - when I tap the Komi type field I get a scroll bar with conventional and proper as the two options. What version of the client are you using?

are you trying to play a rated or free game?
if you (or your opponent) has no rank, then you can only play free games, and only manual handicap (there's no way to auto-calculate it from an unknown rank)

Hmmm. I'd like to play a rated game, but I do not get the options you're getting for Komi Type. Could it be because I'm new? I put a ranking in that field of my profile, and games I join seem to have the appropriate handicap, so I thought I had a rank...

I'm pretty sure I'm using the newest version of the client because I just downloaded it for the first time yesterday.

What is your user name on dgs?

Ok - found you. Yep you have a rank and are playing rated games. Are you tapping the word "manual" when you are trying to change the Komi type? and I guess - one more question - can you change byo yomi?

Figured it out, I guess...I logged out, then logged back in. Now I can change Komi Type away from Manual. I guess it was because I logged in before I had a rating and somehow that aspect of your account doesn't update on its own like your games and other stuff do. All good now though - thanks!
