So I played a game on IGS, where my opponent opened on 2-2. I was sure it was a mis-click and waited for undo...when it didn't come, I thought, what's this joker up to? The following 50 moves followed. I know I could have played over his 2-2 in the beginning but I had an inkling that the guy had some sort of funny plan. I ended up winning by resign after I made a living group out in the centre and then made some points on the side. But it was surprisingly tough, if not just for the factor of me scratching my head and laughing, but then trying to figure out what the best play actually was... Then I watched him play this game... Which neither player actually finished but both passed?? Spider-web fuseki??? Is this real life?? |

Greetings I think that he do it to make a trap. When I played in OGS against one player dan in one tournament, he opened in 2-2 in all his games against kyus player. I think that he did it to punish a bad moves... |

Hi, In my opinion, the first game was difficult because up to move 14, Black took an overwhelming influence, while you yourself played only large extensions. At this point, Black's settled territory = 0, White's settled territory = 0. Then Black is the first one to make actual territory, while chasing your stones into his strenght. At move 50, the problem of Black is that three of his group are completely locked and have no potential. White's strenght seem superior, as it covers the left and top edge, and the rest is under mixed influence. But with the possibility to close two moyos for White, in the top right and bottom left center, plus all the bottom right edges to be taken, the value of the sente is very high. |
