The Nihon Ki-in celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2024. It has just launched a commemoration fund appeal. Unfortunately, the background is a little more complex than a mere celebration. The Ki-in says that, "Because of the recent Corona pandemic, the Nihon Ki-in finds itself in a difficult business environment such as we have never experienced before." Given that the Ki-in has had to survive difficult birth pangs, World War II and economic turbulence such as the Oil Shock, we have to assume from these words they are more than a little worried. The problems affect all their centres, in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka. The commemoration fund is designed to contribute to creation of a new women's professional league team tournament, and they also plan to boost the national squad and to nurture talented children. This will all be based on a wider bed of promoting go throughout Japan by adapting new technology in ways that align with changing lifestyles (e.g. expansion if their Youtube channel). There is no mention that I saw of any specific international element, but people here may nevertheless wish to support the Ki-in, strikingly generous to western go in the past, by making a donation to the fund. An individual donation can be made for a mere minimum 10,000 yen, and corporate donations are possible, too. These are all tax deductible in Japan, so may be deductible in various western countries as well. Your name will be displayed on a donors' board on their website (if you give permission).
