Just now, I ran across the initials GIGS and NCIC on a program I reckon hasn't been updated since the 90s. They're listed as servers. Does anyone know anything about them? |

Never heard of them, however maybe the following links help to confirm their existence: An Italian 1998 beginner's guide about Go on the internet, http://figg.org/old_figg/www.figg.org/i ... 70-it.html, mentions telnetting to blue.ncic.ac.cn, and when I search for that domain it seems to have been a bulletin board of some kind. (Maybe the guide also exists in English somewhere?) The British Go association Go server history page https://www.britgo.org/history/servers.html mentions GIGS as a German server. |

NCIS was a competitor to Internet Go Server some in the 1990's. As I recall it came to be due to some animosity towards the founder of IGS. People on IGS could get banned from IGS for soliciting players on IGS. Edit: So much for my memory. After looking at the British Go page linked above it now seems I was confusing NCIC with NNGS.
