I'm seriously thinking about attending the US Go Congress this year in Santa Barbara. So far, I've been pleasantly surprised that the cost to get there won't be too terrible. However, I'm trying to find out where the cheapest hotel closest to the actual event is. Or any hotels, for that matter. Does anyone know anything about this?

And, is anyone else considering going?

You can try orbitz. There are a few cheap motels out there. I don't think you need to worry about booking for a while though.

Hotels in Santa Barbara will often be expensive. To the south, in Montecito, they will be horrendously expensive. ( For example, at the San Ysidro Ranch, you can spend over 4K US per night. ) The ocean is to the west, the mountains to the east, so your best bet is northward. At the northern edges around the Warren Fairgrounds you can find some cheap hotels along State Street, and also if you go northward into Goleta.
There is also rumored to be a campground within a few miles of UCSB, but I don't know the details. I heard that you have to reserve spots there many months in advance for summer.

I disagree. We are talking about southern Califonia seaside during the summer. The good places are often booked many months in advance.

Perhaps, but it's good to start planning well ahead of time so I know what my budget will need to be. Especially since I'm traveling from the east coast to the west coast. Loooooooooooooooooong ways away. :P

I like the idea. That would cut the cost enormously. I just have to see if I can nab a tent from a relation or my girlfriend's dad. And I still have plenty of time to reserve a spot going off what you just said. Hopefully.

No. I think you misunderstood me. I am saying that you probably do NOT have plenty of time.
We are talking about prime vacation destination in peak vacation season.
