It's rather odd, but http://igolocal.net/ seems to be down for two or three days now. Does anyone know what happened to it? Furthermore, was there any sort of development going on at that site? I joined quite some time ago and it always looked the same (not extremely functional, I might add). |

It was an interesting idea/theory/experiment. Now we see the reality/results of the experiment. |

Does anyone know cthomas, the creator or igolocal? I'll pm him on here, but I don't know any other way to get in touch. |

He's fairly active on Facebook. I posted a question on his iGoLocal page there a few days ago, which should have notified him right away. No response yet. |

That wouldn't be very good if it went down for good, although I'll have to admit I didn't use it all that much. :/ |

Well it seems to be back on its tracks now. I'm hoping to see some improvements though, I always liked the idea of such a place. |

I think IgoLocal is great idea. It would be a good thing to encourage others to use this. I've found since starting/reviving the local go club in State College, pa that there are more people who either play go or want to learn go in my area than I had imagined. IgoLocal seems like a good tool to help bring those people out of the woodwork. I'm definately going to push it's use among the members at my club (the Schlow Library Go Club in State College, PA). Maybe we can encourage it's use among the people here. --ptw-- |

the domain seems to be vacant again. ![]() probably since April 2012 as the senseis article seems to indicate. I didn't use it very often but think igolocal is a very important idea. It would be sad to lose it. |

And then … whois igolocal.org: Huh? <headscratch> could it be there is some confusion which domain “our” igolocal actually is? This one really is down (.com and .net seem to be for sale), and the owner’s mail address is “chuck@…”. |

Could http://promotego.org/ be a replacement? At least it’s not down like igolocal.net, I was able to enter the data for our local Go meeting. |

PromoteGo and IgoLocal were different. Too bad they both folded. From my point of view, IgoLocal's main feature was showing locations of clubs and players on maps, while the main feature of PromoteGo was to help players schedule games in places where those games could be seen by others. I liked both ideas. It would be nice if the national and international go organizations would revive and support both of these, and possibly merge them. |

He produced a followup to igolocal and also dropped support for it. I believe it was either made open source or was offered to the AGA. The two issues with operating such a site is the time investment to monitor and fix any problems and then actually getting people to sign up. Both can be very difficult. Maybe these organizations don't have the time to devote to such endeavors. |

I'm not sure he's got the time or energy to launch it again. I'm pretty sure he's released the source code, I'm just not sure where. |
