Has anyone played with silica stones? I'm contemplating buying a set, but I wonder if it's worth it over yunzi ones. Are they any good?

Do you have a link to the set you're contemplating to buy?

It's either these or yunzi's from Yellow Mountain imports

My white ones are pretty similar, although the black ones are not shiny. I always assumed the material was glass or something like it, but this might be it.
You can see a shot of mine on the board in this post.

If it is the same, then they're pretty good. They rarely chip/break when they fall, and they feel good to the touch. I've bought them as a set with a board, and it was a long time ago, so don't know prices, though.

Is that the same as glass stones, or something different?

Yes, it seems silica is glass http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silicon_dioxide. I quite like my glass set of stones btw.

I highly recommend Yunzi stones. They have a little weight and feel good in your hands.
