I think it would be fun to challenge people to play out the last hundred or so moves of classic games. Is there any go server that supports this. Also perhaps playing out randomly generated games, just to try to make use of whatever the random generator hands you. |

I think you can do this in KGS with a little work: open an sgf in Teaching mode, you can move to any point in the sgf file and then set who plays black and who plays white. |

Thanks for the tip. I think it would be more fun and people would take it more seriously if it were supported directly. For the random case if each person got to look at the board then choose whether they liked that board, then they were randomly selected as either black or white, and for the professional games replays, if there were a database of sgf's available so that you could put yourself in the queue as playing from position 100 of one of the games. |

One thing i want to do at Kaya is configurable challenges: some specific like challenges to do with someone with specific rules. One of them was "Yose practice" which is from a set of say, 50 pro games that ended within 5 points, setup the game 100 moves before the end, and let the players play it out to see what they get. Would be awesome practice and study, because even if you know the game, if your opponent plays differently you still have to do calculations. The other application was pre-fix fusekis, like chinese/micro chinese. Usually i get that people are extremely afraid of fusekis they dont know, so it becomes hard to practice them. If there were a small joseki/fuseki dictionary about it, and the ability to start a game in that position, could be fun for learning. |

I think there are many times that I am studying a specific fuseki, but I don't get to play that Fuseki until I find a player that is so inclined, by the time I encounter it I forget the sequences. |

Challenge item "12345" in GoChild is a competition to play out pro games. There are some very talented players actively practicing daily. http://gochild2009.appspot.com |
