(my sincere apologies if this is not the correct folder)

I will shortly spend 8 days in Bangkok for business and am hoping to find a place to play Go/Weiqi/Baduk in the evenings. My google skills have failed me as all I can find are go-go bars.

Does anyone have any info about the Bangkok 19x19 scene? I'm not a skilled player so the opponent quality is of no concern. I'd just rather relax in the evenings with some fellow players than in my hotel room on Tygem. ;-)

Mon-Fri, open hours 16.00-22.00, very few people on weekday and on-one show up until 17.00 or 18.00
Sat-Sun, open hours 10.00-24.00, a lot of people around 13.00-17.00

Close on holiday.
It's holiday in Thailand on 5 Dec, and 10 Dec and should expect a few people on that weekend (7-8 Dec).

Cheers

For the benefit of future readers, I visited this club on a Saturday afternoon. They occupy the second floor of a small office building. There is an administration room, a small classroom with teaching board, and a medium size room for ad hoc matches. To my surprise I did not meet any Chinese players - all present were Thai or Japanese. There were 3 games going when I arrived and an idle member graciously immediately invited me to sit and play. I ended up playing 4 games total against 3 different opponents, all far stronger than I. While I regret being unable to challenge them at all, they were very patient and eager to help me better understand the game. Overall it was an extremely pleasant experience and I will absolutely return the next time business takes me through Bangkok. My warmest thanks go out to the Go Association of Thailand members who so kindly entertained me that day.

For those looking to find the location, the building is located at Lat/Long:
N 13° 43' 38.28"
E 100° 32' 6.36"

Cheers!

Hi Drew, thank you for the photos and info. May I ask what are the respective levels of all the players involved,
and who is who in the photo ? Thanks.

you must go to a go-go bar and defeat the entrance girl in a game of gogo. Inkwolf will explain the rest.

Unfortunately I did not get the names of the two elderly Japanese fellows in the picture. They are both retirees who moved to Bangkok to live out their years. :)

In the games I played, one player was 1kyu, another was 2dan I believe, and the third was high single digit kyu. All the games started with 6 stone handicaps and quickly devolved into teaching sessions because I was only ~28k at the time.

I don't know the level of the two fellows in the picture, but perhaps a veteran eye could deduce an approximation based on the board condition.

They also have people of lower skill level, and lots of youngsters running about. Hope that helps!
