Featuring Honinbo Sansa's senior pupil, Nakamura Doseki, this is the oldest known 2-stone game, according to Fukui Masaaki. It might be added too that Doseki's stock, already high, has risen recently as a result of Fukui's research and commentaries (in fact he has raised the stock of old go as a whole). He has demonstrated how Doseki elevated the standard of go appreciably compared with Sansa's day. Doseki was robbed of the chance to become the 2nd Honinbo because Sansa asked him to act as steward for his heir, the still young Sanetsu, but Doseki did found the Inoue family and gave the -seki name to all its heads.

We know next to nothing about Unseki, though his strength and the -seki in his name suggest he may have been Doseki's pupil, perhaps one of the many go pupils who died prematurely in those days (hard study in overcrowded conditions).

The date of the game is not known, but Doseki died in 1630 and Unseki was also said to have played Yasui Sanchi on two stones in 1631, so a date around 1629-30 looks likely.

Incidentally, the traditional records vary after 134, but given here is what is now believed to be the correct version.
