I recently started re-reading Attack and Defense by James Davies, and two thoughts came to mind:
1. Back at Godiscussions.com, we had started a reading group in which we would read Attack and Defense chapter for chapter together and discuss it. Fwiffo had provided many of the games in SGF format and I found both the book and the discussion interesting and worthwhile. I don't remember exactly when and why this died out (perhaps it had to do with the server dying) but I would be interested in continuing the discussion - perhaps starting with chapter 5? Is that about where we left off? Anyone interested?
2. The book, like all of the books in the Elementary series, is both well conceived and well written. Davies manages to do what many other go writers don't seem able to: to put go ideas and principles into useful categories. Does anyone know why he never wrote any more books? I'd be curious to hear what he's up to, whether he is still involved in go and whether he thinks he's said all he has to say on the subject.
