He did not know that an admin (third person? ) had removed them (because that hadn't happened yet when I asked for the clarification), but he did know that someone had raised copyright questions. As it stands he will have to re-emerge to post the URL of his new website, either here or over at SL, and we can ask him for to state his position unambiguously then. Since he is going to find a new host it's a moot point for now, but most internet Go resources will face a truck problem eventually.

Indeed. I think authors who want to exercise the kind of control that Steve is asking for are often being reasonable, but would probably gain from thinking about what should happen if and when their hosting disappears.

So the scores often get split into x solid (strong) territory + y weak territory. The reason for the difference is you expect the numbers for y to change in the game but x to be able to stay similar. You can sum up those to figure out what strategy you should take. If you're behind, you need to make more drastic plays. If you're ahead, you can just close off your weak territory and end the game.

You can see this behavior a bit on wbaduk too if you use their scoring estimator which separates to "definite territory" and "thickness".

Ah that makes sense. I thought you meant you assume the worst for you and the best for your opponent, but this seems much better. I'll give it a go and see what happens.

I was alerted to the loss of the link only a few days ago by a direct message on KGS. Until then I was not aware of it. Here is the situation:

I had forgotten that I had stored them on my work pages. I thought they were on my personal home pages. There was a change made at the beginning of the summer which invalidated the links. Since becoming aware of it I realize I need to move them to my personal pages. But before I do so I am taking advantage of the move to edit them for typos. I have already done three of the five. As soon as all are done I will move them and they will be available again. In the meanwhile I have no objections to the link remaining in SL to the archive versions, but please do not duplicate them elsewhere. When ready, I will edit the SL page.

I have now restored these lessons and removed the links to the archive copies. They have also been edited to remove typos. The ISP provider at the new location uses a Microsoft product which does not recognize the .SGF extension and will not display them unless I add a .TXT extension so you will now have to save the files to your own disk and remove that .TXT.

I also added another .HTML on middle game fighting which I wrote 14 years ago and never made available.
