I am a beginner and have now read several books and have a relatively simple question to which I have heard conflicting answers. When studying a go book is it helpful to underline or highlight text as one would in a textbook? Any input would be most appreciated, and I thank you in advance for your time. |

Since different people have different preferred ways of studying, I would say that if you are one of those folks who find it useful and valuable to underline texts that you study, then by all means, do so with your go books as well. If not, then don't. I would however mention that what you find important as a 17k might be utterly obvious to you when you decide to study the same book a year later, so perhaps pencil is a better choice than text markers. |

When I was in college I did some underlining, but made a lot of notes in the margins. Now I highlight, but the highlighters are not good for writing margin notes. I find highlighting better for reviewing, but I think that making margin notes was better for learning. I make margin notes in go books. E. g., If B3 at 4, then W3. ![]() |

Thank you for all of your helpful comments! To your point, daal, upon re-reading other things will come to light as I progress, which is was my main concern in marking my books to begin with. For those who have highlighted their books, when re-reading at a later time when you have become more advanced, did you find trouble in reading the book in a meaningful way resulting from previous highlighting/underlining? |
