Here is a small go strength test. It is 20 multiple choice go problems and it is meant to give you a rough estimate of your strength. I was hoping some of you guys (or girls) would be so kind as to take a moment of your time to see if you think it is accurate (or accurate enough) I ask because I took it and says that I would be a lot stronger than I think a really am. Like....a lot stronger.
Thank you very much for any feedback on this.

Run by breakfast 3p.

Pretty old :)

Im 1D or 2k on kgs, it says im 7k. When I was 5k it said i was 12k. I think it might have something to do with what im weak and strong at.

Well the plot thickens then. Also, I have heard of Breakfast, so that does indeed make me trust the test a little more. But it say's im a KGS 6k. That is impossible in my mind. When I play real games I feel like a 25k.

For me, it says I'm an EGF 2-kyu
I think the test is a rather optimistic one, unless I'm disproven after the next tournament :rambo:

I took the test a couple of times over my entire Go-career and everytime the result was different. I achieved EGF 4D, which is far overrated, and some very disappointing ranks. Sometimes it got close, mostly it was off. Therefore, in my opinion, the test is best descibed as gimmicky. Have fun taking it but don't take the result too seriously.

Says I'm 13k but that's way too flattering.

It does say at the end that it mainly tests your understanding of the game.

I got European 4k (KGS 2k). It makes perfect sense to me, even though I play weaker. I'm the kind of guy who obsesses over theory and is too lazy to practice. :D

More games, more tsumego... :study:

It puts me at KGS 6k (Europe 10k), when the last time I was playing regularly I was more around 10 or 11 (Europe 16k) and feeling that I was being ranked a couple of numbers better than I was.

I think that having multiple choice questions skews the result. Given free play, those of us who play at a lower level might choose all sorts of awful moves not conceived of by the test. :D

That is basically the exact same boat I am in with this. I agree with the multiply choice idea. Some of the problems you look at and say "Oh, I remember this from study!" Whereas with free choice I probably would have went to default and said "Oh, I want to attack this!"

It gave me 9kyu europe which is 8k IGS.

I suppose that means I haven't hit a plateau yet.

I want to know how it scores you. It can't possibly score on an absolute right-or-wrong basis - it has to be done by degrees. And, what determines one move's superiority over another's? It's especially difficult with no presentation of the previous move(s) or the in-game context. The test seems at best vague and at worst very inaccurate.

Online playing schedule: KGS mostly evenings
12 kyu it rated me, I am 13 kyu kgs. (Took the test after a few glasses of wine and midnight local time)

:o)

It seems more middle-game judgement oriented rather than l&d/reading oriented, at least to me.

I agree that the test is vague and not very accurate. I've taken the test a few times over the course of my go career and it usually ranks me a few stones above my level (last time at 5d which is about 4 stones off).

However keep in mind that the order of previous moves is completely irrelevant to the actual evaluation of the position and move candidates (excluding ko situations, of course)

It deemed me "European 16k or lower", which is likely the case, as I've only really been playing the game for a matter of weeks. Quite a bit in those weeks, but still...

Been a couple of years since I tried it, this time I recognized many shapes from joseki sequences, and it rated me a flattering if ludicrous 4d (I'm 1d)
