He suffered a surprise defeat earlier this year, losing to Yu Zhiying (now considered one of the strongest female players in the world) in the Chinese Xinren Wang final. However, just a few days ago, he won six games in a row to win the Chinese CCTV tournament (keep an eye on him in the coming Asian TV cup). |

Folks from the US and Canada should be happy that Gansheng Shi managed to win against Joanne Missingham. |

Everyone knows both names now in that community though. Here is a post from Mimura Tomoyasu of the event reception. http://mimura15.jp/1259.html |

BTW, China is hosting a separate world new star tournament. The top 4 finishers in GLOBIS Cup have guaranteed seats in the top 16 of that event. The remaining 12 are decided via two preliminary tournaments. |
